One I really should mention is that, unbeknown to Samson, Delilah's ex husband Neil wants his dog Tolpuddle back.Great pace, great finish to so many stories, this feels like it could be a very satisfying end to my time in Bruncliffe with Samson and Delilah, but I don't want it to be, and right there is a mark of the success of this 8th instalment. Ida discovers the source of George's appetite, and takes Grigore and Pavel into her kitchen to feed them properly, trying to convince herself that they are good people. It will be interesting to see the TV series if/when that happens, but make sure you read the books first if you can. Overall I think this is totally worth it, it has all the cozy vibes one could want, characters that are fun and with depth, a dog that is the most lovable thing, a slight romantic touch and a lot of mystery. There's so much work to be done on all the investigative, dating and web site activities that they enlist the help of Ida and a young trainee.

It's cleverly written, with various POVs and the different strands of the story being slowly but steadily woven together. I liked the bit where Troy, the landlord of The Fleece, was tasked with using his people reading skill to identify the likely hitman.

I usually try to give a little background to all the series I read, but I have been able to find out all that much. In the eighth novel in the Dales Detective series, Date with Evil, Samson and Delilah are about to discover that all of their new cases may be connected to a network of evil that seems to be surrounding Bruncliffe. And rather than describing crowded streets and the mayhem of city life, my eyes were drawn to the rainbow colours on the ewes’ rear ends as the breeding season got into full swing! Samson had realised that all the cases Dales Detective Agency were working on were related, but now Delilah is missing. Before she disappeared, Livvy had a worshiping admirer in Oscar Hardacre, son of the neighbouring farmers the Hardacres.
