About this deal

You’re even able to connect a microphone directly into the pedal with an XLR cable, which allows you to use the looper for acoustic guitar, vocals, or any other instrument using a microphone. TRS/MIDI connecting cable: BMIDI-5-35, BMIDI-1-35, BMIDI-2-35, BCC-1-3535, BCC-2-3535 Size and Weight Width 73 mm

Despite some down-sides, the RC-1 has the rugged build and great sound quality musicians have come to expect from Boss. Stripped down loopers like this have also been popular because they focus on the core functions of looping. Many guitarists don’t care about a lot of extra bells and whistles. If you just want a basic looper, the RC-1 does what you need very well. Plus, you get stereo ins and outs and a cool display style.KISS – use as few gadgets as possible. Try playing acoustic jazz wih a plain amp, it’s loads of fun. At first glance, it looks like the RC-10R and RC-30 do the same thing. They both have a strong focus on rhythms and two footswitches. Another example might be to link your RC-600 to a MIDI compatible lighting controller. This can be done to synchronise your light show with your loops. The RC-600 is the most feature-filled loop station covered in this guide. It surpasses the now-ancient RC-300 in many ways as well as introducing new features not found on any other loop station pedal. Live use: some pedals are easier to use in live performances than others. You probably don’t want to need to bend down to adjust your pedals in a performance.

The RC-500 uses better quality audio, has a better display, and more modern features that weren’t available in 2011 when the RC-300 came out. BOSS created the RC-1 to compete against the incredibly popular Ditto Looper by TC Electronic ( read my review of the Ditto here). The Ditto Looper became popular thanks to the low price and easy-to-use features.

If you would like to have more control of your loop, you can add an external footswitch to make your loop setup even simpler you use. By adding an FS-5U, you can have the pedal switch of the RC-1 will control Record and Overdub and the FS-5U will Stop and Undo/Redo layers. The list of effects hasn’t been released yet, so I will update this guide once I know exactly what the effects are. Having one footswitch means you need to memorize how to control the loop. Fortunately, the RC-1 has the basic functions written on the pedal. You tap the footswitch to start recording, then tap it again to enter into overdub mode.

BOSS has a large range of guitar effects that could draw from, so hopefully, we will see a good range of guitar-based effects. The press release for the RC-600 mentions a lot of vocal and DJ-style effects, but I would expect to see a decent number of guitar effects as well. BOSS RC-600 vs RC-300 Comparison BOSS really did come along early to the looping party and dominate the market with a few well placed and effective looping devices. Recognising the potential for loopers to solo performers as well as creative players in an ensemble, BOSS’s RC units are amongst the best-selling and most recognisable loopers available anywhere. Their clear functionality and typically robust quality control make BOSS RC loopers something you can rely on.It pales in comparison to other Boss loopers like the RC-3, though. The RC-3 offers 3 hours of stereo recording and includes onboard memory for storing loops. Granted, it costs more, but with memory so cheap these days, it would have been nice to include at least some additional memory slots on the RC-1. If You Remember Only One Thing… The downside of the RC-5 is that it still only uses one footswitch. While you can connect external footswitches, that’s an extra cost that could go towards a bigger unit. The big advantage the RC-300 still has over the RC-500 is the sheer number of footswitches, controls, and external device support. The “mono to stereo”-feature suggested by Howard above does not seem to work in this case: the stereo channels are separate. The way to think about this is you can build a dedicated loop for different parts of a song, different instruments, or different layers you want to start and stop without interrupting the rest of the music.
