About this deal

With the wine flowing at the holiday table, set aside a thimbleful of the good stuff to use in your night ritual after the lights go down. Altar cloth: go to a thrift store and look through their hanky, scarf, and doily selection and you will likely find a few nice options for a tiny cloth to carry with you

Representation of water: vial of water, collapsible or tiny bowl, shell, river stone, blue stone, river stone Or, be creative! I love this adorable Ouija Board mint box, which stores my travel altar items perfectly. (Also, the mints aren’t bad). A travel altar is a great idea for anyone. You can set up a travel altar for any kind of purpose. You can use whatever kind of carrying case you like, too! I chose to do the outside cover and inside covers with watercolor panels–painted them, cut them to size, and then used a water-based superglue (the Ultimate) to adhere them. I sealed them with clear acrylic. The outside of the panel just had a little tree scene on it. The inside of the panel included the Druid’s Prayer for Peace as a focus for meditation. Alcohol ink inside the boxes The focal point of an altar is usually a pentacle or a cauldron. The pentacle represents the fifth element of spirit. In Wicca and witchcraft, the cauldron represents the goddess and rebirth. Many witches also like to include something to represent the god and the goddess. This could be statues, candles, or a sun symbol and a moon symbol.Whether you have a place of your own or, like me, seek inspiration in new places each day, I encourage you to create a travel altar, too. Find a good, sturdy box—small enough to fit in a suitcase but large enough to hold a collection of items—and gather in it objects that serve as windows to the Divine. Some objects might be fairly straightforward, like a candle or a rosary; others might be symbolic, like a feather to remind you of the movement of the Spirit or a leaf from a tree to remind you of the connection you feel with creation. You could also add pictures of those you want to call to mind during your time of prayer, such as a family portrait to keep those whom you love close during your time a way or an image of a sponsored child. There are many options for keeping your ritual tools hidden from view if you haven’t yet gotten out of the broom cupboard. Simple drawstring bags work well. I have a feeling that some of the items in the box will always be there, such as a candle, a set of prayer beads, and my small book of words of wisdom given to me by a reader. Other objects relate more to my current curiosities and season in life—an image of the Virgin and Child from the Eastern Orthodox tradition; a scallop shell from Kyle’s journey along the Camino; moss to represent a season of growth, both without and within. And then there will always be objects that find their way in after catching my eye, such as the small piece of honeycomb, inviting me to ponder and encouraging me to find deeper meaning hidden in everyday life. But what if you don’t want a permanent altar, are practicing in secret, or have nowhere to put it? A travel altar is easy to make and can easily fit inside of an empty breath-mint tin. Here’s how to make one, whether it is the only altar you have or a secondary one you use when you are away from home! You will need: An impromptu reading of the Tarot can break up relationships with people that you only see once or twice per year.

Another option here is painting–if you are working on metal, enamels work well. You can also use spray paint (a technique here is to paint one shade, let it dry, then take leaves, flowers, or ferns and then lay them on top of the box and spray a second shade). In terms of decoration, I had two different approaches. Since I wanted to cover up the Altoids logo (I was using repurposed tins), I made nice watercolor panels that I sealed with an acrylic sealer. This helped protect them from wear and tear. I glued those on the inside, top, and bottom of each altar.Dried herbs, this could be a bundle for burning or loose herbs you commonly use for spells (or both!) If you take one essential oil with you on your trip, make it peppermint oil! 8. Include a vile of moon water in your altar kit. You can reduce stress by using a few drops of peppermint oil (diluted) on your forehead or in your bathwater. It can also help with headaches. It makes everything smell like a candy bar.
