About this deal

But there’s no getting away from the fact that the Micro PC is not built for long-form input. You could try to touch type but it’d probably be painful! On paper, this looks like a very powerful NUC and a bargain price from Geekom. Based on the 2021 launched Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile processor, this tiny system comes in a single SKU with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of PCIe 3.0 NVMe storage. After a week of using the GPD MicroPC (with Ubuntu MATE) as a companion device alongside my regular, full-sized computers, I have to say that I totally get it.

With that out of the way, let’s start with our thoughts of the best smallest laptops with sub-11-inch displays. Affordable 11-inch small laptops & 2-in-1 hybrids What even counts as a mini laptop? It's not a real well-defined category, so Google "Best Mini Laptop," and you will get a slew of different interpretations. Here's ours: A computer—be it a true Lap-Top, or a tablet with attachable keyboard—that's got less processing power in favor of portability. We like to see screens less than 13 inches, and we're typically looking at RAM around 4 to 8GB. These are not great gaming laptops, so they won't replace your high-processing computers, nor will they be able to edit big photo or video files.

If a mini PC is best, consider how you'll be using your machine. In addition to general computer usage, Mini PCs have been used as media servers, games emulators, and much more. The latest MacBook Air features vastly improved hardware specs, headlined by the M2 chip. The M2 has 50% more bandwidth than the M1, has 35% faster graphics performance, and 40% faster processing speeds. Needless to say, it blew us away during our testing. All these combined make the Win Max 2 a complete mini laptop, and the best such device available in a 10-inch format as of late 2023. It’s pricey, though, as expected given the offered specs and features… When I first heard about the GPD Micro PC, the 6-inch laptop crowdfunded into reality earlier this year, my overriding impression was one of confusion.

This isn’t a cheap NUC solution, but it does offer the potential for enhanced performance in the future for those who like to gamble a little. A microcomputer is a small, relatively inexpensive computer having a central processing unit (CPU) made out of a microprocessor. [2] The computer also includes memory and input/output (I/O) circuitry together mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB). [3] Microcomputers became popular in the 1970s and 1980s with the advent of increasingly powerful microprocessors. The predecessors to these computers, mainframes and minicomputers, were comparatively much larger and more expensive (though indeed present-day mainframes such as the IBM System z machines use one or more custom microprocessors as their CPUs). Many microcomputers (when equipped with a keyboard and screen for input and output) are also personal computers (in the generic sense). An early use of the term "personal computer" in 1962 predates microprocessor-based designs. (See "Personal Computer: Computers at Companies" reference below). A "microcomputer" used as an embedded control system may have no human-readable input and output devices. "Personal computer" may be used generically or may denote an IBM PC compatible machine.

Which CPUs Should You Look for in a Mini PC?

You get 3 regular USB 3.0 ports; a rear USB Type-C port (which handles charging, data and display); a full-size HDMI out; and — cherry on top — an RS232 serial port. Besides those apps, the Nano IoT is especially suited for use in a medical or industrial environment (it lives up to its internet-of-things name with two front-mounted RS-232 serial ports for connection to specialized equipment). Designed like a 1.5-by-7.1-by-3.5-inch heatsink, the little Lenovo can be VESA-mounted behind a monitor. Its 4GB memory ceiling cramps its style as an office PC, but it's a compact, quiet way to get a lot of jobs done. We've tested thousands of devices, from the best laptops for photo editing to best business computers, alongside small-form PCs.

A mini laptop is also very beneficial for the home. They take up very little space, so you can work in the home office but just as easily sit on the sofa or in a garden chair. And after work you can enjoy some light video gaming or a film to relax by connecting it to a TV or monitor.. When choosing which mini PC is best for you, there are several factors to consider - but first, it's important to be sure a mini PC is right for your needs.

Specs-wise, the Chromebook Duet runs on an ARM-based MediaTek 8Core platform with 4 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of Don’t dismiss the placement of the touchpad and mouse buttons: when this thing is in your hand, they feel perfectly placed. Micro PC Gaming

This is surprisingly powerful for its size, available in either Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 U variants, with up to 32 GB of LPPDR5x memory and fast SSD gen4 storage. Add in a metal chassis, a 1600p IPS display with pen support, a QWERTY keyboard, a 67 Wh battery, and a good selection of full-size ports, and there’s no surprise this catches a lot of attention in this niche. You should look for a notebook with futureproof Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless standards. Features like these are vital before you make the splurge on a new laptop because they prevent your device from becoming obsolete for as long as possible.Plus, as I keep saying: this device isn’t going to be your new workstation so you don’t need oodles of space (and there’s a microSD card slot on the side of the MicroPC that supports up to 512GB cards). Though superfluous I appreciate the juxtaposition of the über modern USB Type-C and the comparatively old-school serial port gives the micro a little more nuance; this is a truly everyman (and woman) device. The GPD P2 Max is a slightly more affordable 8.9-inch laptop, but perhaps not as practical or as powerful as the two above, as it’s built on an Intel Jasper Lake Pentium platform (or Core m in the previous generation) and only offers a smaller keyboard with tiny keys, fewer ports, and a 35Wh battery.
