About this deal

There aren't many processors that support DDR5 memory, and we haven't heard anything conclusive from the AMD camp. This might have something to do with the fact that these different technologies can’t be used simultaneously, but we’ve seen several brands take this risk in the past with earlier memory generations (with DDR2/DDR3 combo boards, for example). The 16GB variant follows a single-rank design, while the 32GB variant conforms to a dual-rank design. Learn More about megatransfers per second - MT/s denotes megatransfers (million transfers) per second and represents the effective data rate (speed) of DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM memory in computing. DDR4-2933 offers a bit performance boost as it increased bandwidth by almost 30%, while DDR4-3200 using slightly weaker timings only improves bandwidth by a further 2%.

With DDR4-2400, we're looking at a 40% increase in latency when switching from gear 1 to gear 2, and this is going to crippled performance in memory sensitive tasks, such as gaming. Now that the HyperX brand has mutated itself into separate entity, Kingston has stuck to its Renegade line of products. It’s one of the reasons that a good set of Samsung-based DDR4-3600 with tight timings is still a perfectly viable gaming option. As for the other tests: Nothing meaningful in Cinebench R23, while DDR5 wins at the HandBrake bench. The first thing you need to do is enable the XMP profile through the BIOS to experience the full speed on offer by the Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 RAM, namely, the 6000 MT/s and 6400 MT/s clock speeds. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is very CPU intensive but at 1080p with a 6900 XT we're able to turn the game from CPU limited to GPU limited by the time DDR4-2933 CL16 is reached.

Depending on the games you play, DDR5 memory can offer little to no performance gain, and this will be true for most titles. Looks are always in the eye of the beholder, but I feel the Team Delta RGB kit and its diffused RGB lighting looks great. Jumping to 1440p starts to introduce a GPU bottleneck but interestingly the increased bandwidth of DDR5 does help to boost performance, and going from DDR4-4000 to DDR5-4800 increased the average frame rate by 5% while having next to no impact on 1% lows.Based on pricing alone (and the fact that availability is near non-existent), DDR5 makes little sense for most. Of course, we do see a 7% increase in 1% lows from DDR4-2933 to DDR5-6200, but that's a negligible difference given the massive increase in bandwidth DDR5 offers.

We'll send breaking news and in-depth reviews of CPUs, GPUs, AI, maker hardware and more straight to your inbox. But more impressive than that was the 17% performance boost seen at 1440p when looking at the 1% lows with a 12% boost to the average frame rate. When you run hardware outside of the manufacturer's specifications, there's always a potential risk of damage. G.Skill memory rarely disappoints and its latest Trident Z5 DDR5-6400 CL32 kit is as good as you’ll find at this point in time.
