About this deal

I also listened to this playlist of dark academia music while I read the book and it was LIFE CHANGING: https://youtu.be/uQpmIm4I1dw For anyone struggling with sexual trauma, allow yourself to feel the way you feel. Don’t get tamped down or hushed up by the world. Be full of rage, if you are full of rage. Allow yourself time to stop the world if you need to. Know you are loved in the full complexity of who you are and that you are not alone. The Phi Delta Fraternity of 2008 and the NFL of Frankie’s expectations are not supportive places for LGBTQIA+ members. What was your impression of his attempts to navigate those attitudes? What would you do in his position? When all your characters have secrets, how do you get to know them? Did you have their failures and alibis mapped out before you began writing, or did you figure out their roles as you went? Stewing in grief and anger, I thought to myself, Why do I feel so frenzied by this disappointment, so desperate? And what if there was a woman who didn’t tamp down those feelings but explored them to their dark ends? And so a villain was born.

Solidly written fast-paced mystery! Definitely had shades of The Girls Are All So Nice Here with the reunion theme and something terrible happening while they were at school. I felt like this novel did more justice to the theme and kept me more intrigued and entertained. New York Journal of Books “[A] captivating debut...Winstead does an expert job keeping the reader guessing whodunit. Suspense fans will eagerly await her next.” It's an addictive story, dark academia at its best, but also it’ll leave you with a shadow of nostalgia for something that happened but it's now over. The promising premise centered on 10th anniversary reunion of university students which also a reason to drag them to the murder scene to solve the cold case of Heather’s brutal killing by stabbing 17 times with a scissor in her dorm room ( I still have conflicts about book’s name as you see the murder weapon is not knife but scissors !!!) Jessica is very determined to prove herself the most successful member of the class during Homecoming. Why does she need to prove herself? How do you navigate the dangers of comparing yourself to others, especially people in your graduating class or distant social media friends? You know, Amber Van Swann didn’t deserve an ounce of what happened to her. Neither did Heather, of course, though she wasn’t the easiest person to get along with, either. I’d shield those two. Everyone else either bought their trouble or needed a wake-up call. I’m telling you this is great, unputdownable, entertaining read while you’re lying on your couch, filling your mouth with greasy pop corn and enjoying each chapter. Texas Lifestyle Magazine “With her ability to weave multiple, distinct characters into a thoroughly well-crafted mystery that is absolutely full of twists, turns, and surprises, Winstead is without a doubt an author to keep an eager eye on.” I already talked enough. Giving my five blazing stars! I truly more books of the author. She did amazing job!

I think I saw that the author has another book coming out next year. I can’t wait to read that one. One college reunion, six friends, and one unsolved murder. This book kept us up reading late at night, and is perfect for those looking for a heart racing thriller!Six college friends reunite at homecoming weekend a decade after graduating — This crew is brimming with dark deceit and secrets, and are forced to confront the details of a murder they’ve all tried to leave behind. But not everyone is ready to move on. Not everyone left Duquette ten years ago, and not everyone can let Heather’s murder go unsolved. Someone is determined to trap the real killer, to make the guilty pay. When the six friends are reunited, they will be forced to confront what happened that night–and the years’ worth of secrets each of them would do anything to keep hidden.

The only downside is that I waited too long to read this one. I realize it was only released last year, but it has come to my attention that ‘dark academia’ is a bit of a trend, which explains why I have found myself reading several other books recently with a similar theme. Unfortunately, the premise is already starting to wear thin for me.It turns out the real you is a quilt, made up of the light and the dark. The life you’ve lived in sunshine and your shadow life, stretching underneath the surface of your mind like a deep underwater world, exerting invisible power. You are a living, breathing story made up of the moments in time you cherish, all strung together, and those you hide. The moments that seem lost. Until the day they’re not.” Newsflash: In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is one of the best, most addicting thrillers I’ve read all year!!

A murder on campus. Six college friends. A ten year reunion. And no one is leaving this party until the case is solved. Also, Courtney being frenemies with them was so confusing. Like, they put up with her and act like they want her around but then also think she's a huge b*tch (because she IS) and like secretly hate her. So why hang out with her? They don't have to. She has other friends. I'm confused. Riley Sager, New York Times bestselling author of Home Before Dark “Beautiful writing, juicy secrets, complex female characters, and drumbeat suspense—what more could you want from a debut thriller? I'm Ashley Winstead's new biggest fan. If you liked Marisha Pessl's Neverworld Wake or Laurie Elizabeth Flynn's The Girls Are All So Nice Here, trust me—you will love this.” This is absolutely genius, outstandingly entertaining, extremely heart pounding, absolutely better mash up of Breakfast Club and Pretty Little Liars than “one of us is lying” installment!ICYMI: Our Mortal Editions are Exclusive Editions for YA and Adult contemporary books and can include any books that do not fall under the fantasy genre. Speaking of goals, throughout the book there are many cases of “success” coinciding with “failure.” For example, Jessica feels very successful in her consulting career, while knowing that she failed all her specific post-graduate goals. Do you have any examples of failures that ultimately led you to a different kind of success?
