About this deal

To get ready for the top coat you first need to add an undercoat. Again, apply in the same way as the primer. Leave to dry and rub down and clean. You will probably need two coats to get a smooth, even, durable finish. Primer paint and undercoat may seem similar and, whilst there are some crossovers, they serve different purposes. When the surface is thoroughly dry the affected surface will need to be rubbed down using 'wet and dry' abrasive paper. It can then be re-coated. This should only be done once the conditions improve or when the condensation problem is resolved. Whether that be brush or roller, either will work. I would recommend using a roller and cutting in at the edges with a brush.

However, using a primer is almost always worth the extra effort. The primer adds a layer between your raw surface and subsequent coats of paint. On porous surfaces, this smooths out the surface, avoiding the need for unnecessary coats of paint later and an uneven final result.Stabilising solution is used on powdery surfaces. This primer creates a seal over the surface, stopping the powdery surface from interfering with your paint system, as well as preventing your paint from penetrating the porous plaster surface. It may require a little bit more elbow grease on your part, but you should be able to get the job done! For furniture you can try a Frenchic paint and if painting outdoors make sure that you choose a good exterior wood paint such as Dulux Weather Shield. Is Painted Plywood Waterproof? Using the wrong type of roller can cause foaming of a paint film. Sponge or foam rollers should be avoided with water-based paints. Long pile rollers must be wetted out properly. Foaming happens when air gets into the wet paint film to create air bubbles. When these bubbles burst craters are left on the film surface. Sometimes these craters dry to give an even film. Putting it right

Softwood can be especially prone to resin exudation, where the natural resin comes to the surface, staining the wood. This resin makes it difficult for paint to adhere to the wood. Apply an aluminium primer to your wood if this happens. The primer will stop the resin from seeping through and compromising your paint system. This is caused usually by a wearing away of the paint film by weathering or could be evidence of salts coming out of the surface. Putting it right There are a couple of options for getting the best looking edges. Rub down with a fine 120 grit sandpaper, add a coat of primer and leave to dry. Now apply a thin layer of wood filler and leave to dry. Rub down again with fine grit sandpaper and add an undercoat. You might need to do two.If your walls are stained, you will need to use a primer paint to cover the stain and to stop it affecting the new paint. Spills and leaks happen and whilst it can be frustrating, it doesn’t have to mean the end of a professional-quality paint finish. To ensure an even result, we recommend applying primer paint to the whole wall, not just the stain. This also applies for ceiling stains too. If you’re painting over a glossy surface, it’s hard for the paint to adhere without the use of primer. If your walls have previously been covered with high-gloss or enamel paint, you will almost certainly need to apply a primer paint before you start painting and may even need to gently sand the surface before priming if it is very high-gloss. The affected area should be brushed down with a stiff bristle brush to remove as much powdery material as possible before applying a coat of Weathershield Exterior Stabilising Primer. If the powder is due to salts/efflorescence then the surface should be wiped with a dry cloth to exhaust the salts before coating with Dulux Trade Alkali Resisting primer to eliminate staining. It can then be re-painted in your chosen finish.
