About this deal

I’d stay away if you are not into psycho murder thrillers that also lectures you about social problems where there is not yet consensus. The first case they worked together was a horrific one - the abuse of two young children and the death of their mother.

And to have the minister and his wife so warmly written about and then to reveal them to be evil incarnate?series of modern-day killings, the decade-old bludgeoning murder and the haunting artwork that has remained shrouded in mystery across the centuries—with a master’s deft hand. This story in part and on the cover refers to the Paston Treasure, a real painting that makes up a large part of the events that this story revolves around. Key points of the narrative point to a tragedy at the Polytechnic University in Quebec in 1989, when 14 female engineering students were killed in an anti-feminist attack.

If a book is part of a larger series, I believe it needs to be judged on its merits and that of its fellow books. Even Sherlock Holmes, that human apotheosis of logic, gets thoroughly spooked by the Great Grimpen Mire in “ The Hound of the Baskervilles. There are hints of the first couple of books in the series that blew my socks off, but then it just all fades away around the 60 percent mark. When you have to spend the last several chapters sorting out and explaining why the "whodunnit" did it, you completely lose me.The murder of Clothilde Arsenault is the tragic case that first brings together Gamache and Jean-Guy Beauvoir, leaving both marked by the evil horrors of the house where the victim's young children, Fiona and Sam, have been left so severely damaged and traumatised that it is unlikely they will ever be able recover. The two were young children when their troubled mother was murdered, leaving them damaged, shattered. Still a good book, but this felt like sloppy story telling to get another book out, and respectfully no where near the best in the series. Inside, the villagers discover a long lost copy of a “grimoire” an old book thought to have been used by witches to summon demons.
