Thunderbird, an emerging electronics company " incubated" by TCL, has announced its first possibly market-ready AR product, the Smart Glasses Pioneer Version. This pair of spectacles is, as the name suggests, the kind of 'true' smart glasses that integrate a working, partially transparent display capable of overlaying a mixed-reality display over the wearer's real-world surroundings.

The audio system of Thunderbird Air 1S has also been comprehensively upgraded with a stroke of 0.5 mm for the first time. Meanwhile, Thunderbird Innovation takes a large number of human ear models as samples, and finely adjusts the opening position of the speaker to bring the sound closer to the ear. In terms of content ecology, up to now, the Thunderbird XR Glasses app developed by the firm has covered mainstream platforms such as iQiyi , Youku, Tencent , Bilibili and Douyin, to provide massive film and television resources. The Thunderbird Smart Glasses Pioneer Version use holographic light waveguide and full-color MicroLED display technology, through Thunderbird Innovation’s self-developed light wave coupling analysis optimization algorithm and unique full-color micro display engine, taking into account thin and light and high bright full-color display, becoming the industry’s first binocular full-color MicroLED holographic light waveguide AR glasses. Right now it looks like you still need your phone to provide the Internet connectivity and most of the smarts, the glasses are mostly a display with simple touch controls on the side. This sets them apart from Xiaomi’s concept smart glasses, which only featured a monochrome display also using micro-LED. PS. you may remember the Ray-Ban Stories that launched recently, smart glasses with a Wayfarer design. Those don't have a display, though, and neither do the Razer Anzu. Also, the HTC Vive Flow from yesterday is a VR headset (though it has cameras, so it can sort-of function like glasses). Having a display puts the Thunderbirds (and the Xiaomi concept glasses) in a completely different category, even if all of these are colloquially called “smart glasses”.
