About this deal

That’s not to say the Wireless Train can’t still be capable headphones — they can. But up against a comparatively brand-new product, it’s going to be an uphill battle for these JBL cans. Design This same sweat resistance is evident with the ear cups. The padding around them is breathable, which helps relieve some sweat buildup, plus the pads are removable for easy cleaning. The inside of each cup brandishes either an “L” or “R” so you know which ears they go on. One key difference here is weight. The Adidas came in at 209 grams, with the Wireless Train tipping the scales at 240 grams. It’s not overtly noticeable, as each pair of headphones distributes the weight well. But if you’re trying to keep your headphones as light as possible, this is surely something to make note of.

Audio tinkerers may find that the JBL Headphones app opens up a lot of custom EQ options to play with. For starters, this Sony HT-A5000 soundbar has Dolby Atmos support for immersive sound plus additional features, like 360 spatial sound that adapts to the environment, smart calibration to match your room, and much more. While previously, the Sony HT-A3000 was the best budget option in the series, this price drop should put the HT-A5000 on everyone's radar. Turn your headphones on, and hold the power slider up for three seconds. The headphones will enter pairing mode. Pressing the Under Armour logo on the right earcup will drop down your music volume and pipe in surrounding sounds. Audio quality The UA Sport Wireless Train are well past their prime in terms of features. That being said, the audio quality of these cans has withstood the test of time, and that just might earn them the occasional spot in the lineup as a battle-tested veteran. Are there better alternatives? This is one of the more premium charging cases on the market: an aluminum cover sheathes a sliding plastic piece that holds the earbuds. One end of the case has a fabric loop, so you can clip it onto a bag or hang it from a wall hook. The other end of the case houses a rubberized flap to protect the USB-C port. JBL estimates battery life to be roughly 16 hours, but your results will vary with your volume levels. Performance

I’m not thrilled about the Wireless Train supporting just Bluetooth 4.1 technology, since it means connectivity and range aren’t up to par with devices that support the newer, better Bluetooth 5 standard. This brings up an important caveat about the Wireless Train: At the time of this review, they’re already two years old. In tech time, that’s about a century. After reviewing the Adidas RPT-01, I went looking for the closest comparison I could find. The Wireless Train were the clear answer because of their price and design, and unfortunately for these headphones, they’re going to be rated by modern-day standards instead of their heyday in 2018. There’s also a function button on the left-hand ear-cup to summon the preferred digital assistant on a mobile device, or toggle between the Everyday and Active ANC modes. While I appreciate the button being there, it would have been nice had it delivered a bit more functionality, such as the ability to toggle various EQ presets. Songs like Dierks Bentley’s Burning Man or the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ By The Way suggested the Wireless Train were able to avoid getting muddy or cramped. There are better sounding headphones –lots of them in fact — but for workout cans, these were more than sufficient.

With a one-year warranty and a seemingly protective carrying case, I don’t think you need to worry about these headphones tapping out after just a few workouts. Keep them charged, and they should be everyday gym fixtures. Should you buy them?

However, as a result of the proficiency of the other presets on offer, this isn’t a dealbreaker; but it does make me wonder how such an oversight could have occurred. After all, Dwayne Johnson’s involvement is all over the box and is the main attraction for anyone after a pair of gym-ready headphones. Mashable is a registered trademark of Ziff Davis and may not be used by third parties without express written permission. Rugged, on-ear design, with an IPX4 rating, built to withstand sweat in the toughest gym conditions If Under Armor can be thanked for the design, it’s clear JBL’s sound-engineering expertise drives the device’s feature set. Active noise cancellation is present, and there are two modes to choose from: Everyday and Active.I wish the design felt a bit more substantial; the flimsy feel can be off-putting. You will also likely find that while the pressure on your ears to be uncomfortable, but it goes down after a short time. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test.

Ambient Aware technology allows you to listen to your music, but still be aware of your surroundings As you'd expect, the headphones can play quite loud without distortion, but those around you will notice some sound leakage (even at 50% volume). As mentioned, there's no noise cancellation, which makes a certain amount of sense -- since they're for working out, and you probably should know your surroundings -- but it seems like an oversight to me, especially at this price point. Includes: 3 size ear tips, 3 winged ear tip enhancers, charging case with Micro-USB port & charging cable From indoor cycling to skateboarding, these earbuds served me well during all of my activities. Whenever I cycle, I become grossly sweaty but the IPX7-rated UA True Wireless FLASH X by JBL handled my perspiration like a champ. The buttons were easy to control with sweaty palms and fingers; I only wish that volume controls were enabled directly from the headset. Athletes who use chalk may want to use these earbuds with caution because they aren’t officially dust-resistant.Another great audio brand that has stepped into the exercise sphere is Jabra. The Jabra Elite Active 75t are IPX7-rated and forgo extreme battery life, though the Elite Active 75t is still very good, for a more compact and versatile design. You can EQ the sound in the Jabra companion app, and take a hearing test to create a custom sound profile.
