About this deal

It features a dedicated subwoofer output, allowing users to connect an external subwoofer for enhanced low-frequency response. The volume can be adjusted by using the volume control knob located on the side panel of the active (powered) speaker. As these are monitor speakers the low-end is not over-emphasized and for some may come across a little hollow and lifeless.

What do you mean by that: “Of course, professional mixing is out of the question without a proper monitoring solution. The speakers feature dual stereo RCA inputs (PC and AUX), optical audio input, and coaxial audio input. bookshelf speaker system designed at a 10-degree angle to accurately direct sound to you in the luxurious MDF wooden enclosure geared to minimize acoustic resonance. I can't tell if changing the LPF re-directs bass from the speakers to the sub or if they are overlapping certain frequencies.

Being that we’ve already reviewed R1850DB’s younger sibling, the R1800BT, we suggest taking a closer look at that article for a more in-depth analysis of the unit’s sound. You never know what might go wrong, but Edifier seems confident enough that it's offering a two-year warranty. We also share information about your use of our site with our social media, advertising and analytics partners. They sound clear, the bass doesn't overpower the rest of the track and the sound feels full/vibrant. Having a subwoofer paired with this speaker means you can take your audio setup to a whole other level.

As with most bookshelf speakers they are a decent small to medium size and will fit on just about any shelf or ledge, as the name would suggest! There is no real difference here in the quality, but both are rigid enough to prevent any unwanted resonance. Despite this, the listening experience was much better than I expected from a brand that isn’t synonymous with studio gear. While not real wood veneer, the MDF is thick enough and a lot more durable than a cheap plastic material. There are a lot of speakers on the market, ranging from small plastic devices that offer tinny sound, up to multi-thousand dollar setups that promise to bathe you in the best audio possible. The first thing that was evident when I unpacked these Bluetooth bookshelf speakers was the heavy weight of the speakers. I’m going to review this set of R1850DB for what they are, active powered speakers with an in-built amp. A wise tuning choice because at only 4 inches there is only so much air this woofer can move so why make it unusable when played over 75% volume? The R1850DB is classic and fun with the latest Bluetooth technology allowing playtime from phones, tablets or laptops. There is a lot going on here, no Swedish-inspired design, if anything it’s aggressive rather than Scandinavian.

I have to crank the sub volume to full to get a decent sound, whereas I could only turn it halfway max on my previous system with a receiver. The back of the speaker handles AUX, RCA, optical, and coaxial, and you can also connect your modern devices with Bluetooth. In addition, the exterior casing features a high-performance MDF wood with vinyl walnut woodgrain wrap to add a decorative touch. Its solid build and stylish appearance make it a suitable choice for audio enthusiasts who value both aesthetics and functionality. The fingerprint-prone glossy surface was something we didn’t really like on the 1800BT model, so it’s great to see that Edifier made improvements in that department.Paired with a decent pair of studio headphones, the Edifier R1850DB speakers are a reliable entry-level monitoring solution for a budget music production studio. With all said and done, both the Edifier R1700BT and R1850DB are high-quality mid-range speakers and offer exceptional sound quality.
