About this deal

This story is full of secrets and mysteries to unravel, but what I loved most was the inevitable heartbreaks and betrayals. I'm so interested in how the next book will cover more of this.

I really enjoyed this and found myself completely immersed in Sunya Mara’s lush prose and atmospheric story telling.

Merley House itself is an imposing 18th century mansion which has a history of ghost activity, and the first half of the day was spent exploring different parts of the house. We used traditional techniques such as pendulums and Ouija boards to reach out to Ghosts as well as more modern techniques such as the Ghost hunt app (samples of which can be seen in the video below.) Why is there not a 6 star option for books like this one that just utterly blow your mind and leave you rolling on the floor sobbing? I believe the ending was perfect and very fitting for Vesper and the world. I love how Dalca and her refused to let history repeat itself, how they were both strong enough to overcome the will of LITERAL gods because they had faced the darkest parts of themselves and accepted the light (in a sense). Spreading the power out among everyone was brilliant.

There were parts of this book that I really enjoyed and while there were even more bad, the good parts made it worth it.

She tries desperately to think of an ikon that can stop it, she’s been stealing ikonomancy so she should know something, but she’s drawing a blank. She realises now she made a mistake, she should’ve listened to her Pa and stayed inside. Someone pushes past me, trying to get me to hurry into line, and I’m jostled into the crowd of food seekers. I shove and sidestep my way out - things aren’t so bad that I have to take charity. Someone else needs that stew more, I’m sure. Happy Monday and welcome to day 1 of our readalong of The Darkening by Sunya Mara. I’m so excited to be reading this one with you, I hope you all love it! Throughout Cloud Horizons, the spirit of Hadrian’s Wall looms large. The wall and its Roman history are still a very visible and tangible part of the Northumberland landscape and character, whilst melodies, harmonies, tunes, and rhythms offer tantalising and teasing bonds between ancient echoes, folk histories, and more modern sounds. Whilst the first novel in this Duology explores fears, this one explores desires. And when I say explores what I really mean is exploits. This Duology contains the message, we can’t live without fear and desire but we can’t let them rule us either.
