About this deal

Freeze-dried forms of a plant typically have ORAC values 5-10x higher than the fresh. This is due to the removal of water, which has no antioxidant activity. Given that we know for a fact that the ORAC of fresh maqui fruit has a value of 19,850, it seems unlikely that the freeze-dried would only be 36% higher (27,000). By this point, we have been liberally inundated with tales of super fruits, specifically super berries. Like acai and blueberries, they’re rich in anthocyanins. Specifically, cyanidin and delphinidin anthocyanins. The high concentration of these is what places them on the top of the antioxidant charts.

You can easily find acai powder for sale at stores like Whole Foods and even some Target and Walmart locations. Since maqui is less popular, it’s harder to find. It’s not the kind of superfood you can buy in bulk at Costco. Maqui ( Aristotelia chilensis) is an evergreen plant native to Chile that produces antioxidant-rich purple berries. Most often these berries are consumed as dried powder, juiced, or taken in extract or capsule form. There isn’t a single peer-reviewed human study to support kombucha benefits and the side effects are unknown by many users. Based on an analysis of 27 different fruits grown and/or commonly eaten by South Americans in the south Andes region, the maqui is almost the highest. It’s only beaten marginally by calafate ( Berberis microphylla). An ORAC of 73,000 is about 15 times more antioxidants than blueberries. Given that, you may be tempted to eat those purple bowls and bottled drinks daily!Maqui berries are harvested in a sustainable way by the Mapuche. They hit the flexible branches of the tree to get to the maqui berries and place the fallen leaves and twigs on the ground, which in turn fertilize the tree. This small green fruit is not to be confused with the American and British gooseberry, nor the dozens of other species which go by the name goose. It’s important to emphasize that all medical research remains preliminary and unproven. You should only use it as a food or dietary supplement, not as a treatment for any disease. Historically and to this very day, they have been an important food in the diet of the Mapuche Indians. Native to south-central Chile, they are the only tribe of the continent who were never conquered by the invading colonists from Europe.

Many manufacturers use the cheaper spray-drying method to make maqui powder. The maqui juice is sprayed onto a carrier such as maltodextrin. Since the maqui berries are heated during this production process, valuable vital substances are lost. Therefore, the maqui powder obtained this way does not contain the full spectrum of valuable active ingredients of the maqui berry. Gensini, G.F.; Comeglio, M.; Colella, A. The maqui berry has the highest quality and quantity of antioxidants of all known fruits in the world. With an ORAC value twice that of the runner-up - the acai berry - it is the large amount of antioxidants from the fertile soils of Patagonia that provides amazing health benefits. The Mapuche native people have been eating maqui berries and drinking their juice for centuries. And other non-native people in Chile have done the same for a very long time as well. Even in an environment in which the maret is literally flooded with so-called super fruits, maqui stands head and shoulders above most of them in terms of benefits. Above all, delphinidins are found in unusually high concentrations in maqui berries. Delphinidins have effective, anti-inflammatory properties and therefore reduce the risk of a variety of degenerative diseases that are related to inflammations. That being said, the Japanese company who created Delphinol maqui extract has published data showing the ORAC value of it being 26,762 per gram.
