Like the White Chocolate Salted Peanut, this flavour contains slightly more calories than the earlier bars – 233 calories in this one – and they also contain slightly less protein – 20g compared to 22g in some of the others. EVERY protein bar line has to have some variation on the classic fudge brownie flavour – it’s basically a right of passage at this point. Grenade have followed suit with the third of their Carb Killa flavours, so how does their offering work out? Overall this wouldn’t be my go-to flavour – the banana flavour is just too artificial. It gets a 5/10 primarily because of the great texture and macros we’ve come to expect from the Carb Killa range. Peanut Nutter – 8/10 Carb Killas are a protein bar designed by the company Grenade. They taste just like a chocolate bar, but instead contain much more protein (20g+) and have far less sugar (2g). As of writing this article there are 13 different flavours, ranging from white chocolate, caramel, chocolate fudge brownie and birthday cake! We will look at more flavours shortly. Do they work?

Informed-Sport is a global quality assurance program. The program certifies that every batch of a supplement product and/or raw material that bears the Informed-Sport logo has been tested for banned substances by LGC's world-class sports anti-doping laboratory. Although strong, the banana flavour isn’t overwhelming and mixes well with the chocolate and the hint of salt from the caramel. It’s certainly a good bar, but then we’ve come to expect that from Grenade by now. It’s nothing groundbreaking and it’ll never replace a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, but it is a decent bar I have to say, the overall flavour is similar to that of the OG bar– maybe a little too familiar for some – probably owing to the caramel layer. There is some peanut flavour, but it’s much gentler than I, and other peanut lovers like me, would perhaps have liked. The orange flavour is just right with this one – it’s not artificial or bitter, and it doesn’t overpower the chocolate flavour. I would have liked something a little more different from the standard Carb Killa range than simply the addition of orange flavour – surely if you’re going to call something ‘Jaffa’ you need a jelly layer…Grenade have definitely switched something up with their more recent flavours – the overall texture is softer and they’ve outgrown the crispies. This bar continues the theme and, in fact, might actually be the fudgiest bar yet. It’s actually squidgy!

Plus the chocolate chips are a nice addition, making for a more interesting texture and intensifying the creamy cocoa flavour.

Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I certainly used to rely on ‘Carb Killas’ (as the name suggests) to be a go-to, lower carb bar, so the higher carb count is something to watch. Grenade have even switched up their usual ‘structure’, swapping the soya crispies for peanut chunks in the chocolate layer. The centre is soft, fudgey and slightly chewy, just like the previous two bars but this time with a nice chocolate flavour. The caramel layer adds a richness and a hint of salt which mixes well with the chocolate coating to create an overall flavour that reminds of, well, a fudge brownie! If you have a sweet tooth this bar is for you. It’s as sweet as the bars with white chocolate coatings, which is unusual for a dark chocolate bar.
