About this deal

If your child needed to wear their collar for 24 hours a day without removing it, after the collar is taken off the skin may be dry and itchy. For ultimate comfort, all of the collar's contact surfaces are cushioned with cotton-lined, breathable foam padding. In an effort to minimise observer bias, the bony landmarks used were readily palpable and easily identifiable, and marker placement was conducted by the same person.

Many patients regain the movement in their neck through natural recovery and gentle movement throughout the day. Remove the cervical collar by releasing one of the Velcro straps, pull the front panel of the collar away from your neck and slowly slide out the back panel from one side of your neck. It features Aspen’s proven cotton-lined pads designed to support proper skin care by reducing patient contact points in the occipital area. Replace the front section by scooping the collar along the breast bone to ensure the chin piece sits firmly under the chin for support. You are free to move around in bed but you must ensure, where possible, that your position is not twisted. If you are finding this particularly difficult, please contact your doctor or specialist nurse for further advice. The structure of the collar is engineered to provide substantial motion restriction without producing painful pressure points that can lead to skin breakdown or poor patient compliance.

You will be provided with a spare cervical collar, unless you have been told otherwise by your consultant you should wear the cervical collar in the shower and change this to a dry one, once you have finished showering. Replace the cervical collar by releasing one of the Velcro straps, pull the front panel of the collar away from your neck and slowly slide out the back panel from one side of your neck.Motion analysis systems allow spinal movement to be measured in three dimensions but only a few studies have utilised this technology to compare the effectiveness of cervical orthoses at restricting motion [ 1, 2, 5, 6]. Under the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 we are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any information we hold about you.

Flexion/extension and rotational movements of the cervical spine were more effectively restricted than lateral bending movements by all collars. The 6-degrees-of-freedom (6DOF) tracking function provided 6DOF data from any user-defined rigid body providing information on the rotational and translational movements of a moving body. Your doctor will tell you whether your child needs to keep their collar on all the time or if it can be removed.

The cervical collar should be tight enough to prevent movement of your neck, for example restrict ‘yes’ and ‘no’ movements however not completely restrictive so that it affects you’re breathing or swallowing.

Out of the stated hours please contact the ward you were admitted to on the telephone number you were provided on discharge. The Aspen Vista and Miami-J Advanced collars are adjustable one-collar-fits-all designs that have recently been marketed.
