About this deal

You will soon find out that the Stunt Racer needs the wheelie bar that has been fitted at the rear of the chassis. Given that new LEGO sets are being released utilising the Powered Up system, I am surprised that this model uses reverts to the traditional Power Functions.

A delicate fishing rod is used as a dummy aerial. I'm not sure how long this part will last as it bends quite easily. You start off by building the base of the racer. This is very straightforward and provides no real interesting building techniques but a sturdy support for what’s to come. This was a very straightforward build, predominately for one reason – this set’s main purpose is to be a remote control car, unlike other Technic sets which attempt to replicate different functions of a vehicle. I decided to build the B-Model as it had a couple of significant design differences to the main model. The rear of the box tries to demonstrate how the Stunt Racer can pull wheelies. It also shows the B-Model.

The build is broken down into two principle stages: The chassis and Power Functions, and the single-piece body. Overall, it seems a very favourable comparison: the two sets are similarly priced even though the L-Motor is twice the price of an M-Motor. The battery box is slung under the chassis, so the B-Model has a very low centre of gravity: there are no wheelies with this model. We brought the racers inside where they were used on our polished wooden floors. The racers skidded around quite a bit as they are really f a s t - and a lot of fun.I think the Technic designers have made a winning Technic model here: lots of playability, Power Functions are included and the set is reasonably priced. I am sure that this set will appeal to a wide range of fans. One of these racers will not be enough; you will soon need a second racer to have some competition. Includes the following LEGO® Power Functions components: two medium motors, one receiver, one battery box and a remote control. The model has lots of playability, Power Functions have been included, and the set is very reasonably priced. I am sure that this set will appeal to a wide range of fans.

How does 42065 perform on different surfaces? The racer works best on smooth surfaces but it also works well on carpet, being able to negotiate obstacles ( or TLCB Elves, Ed.) and climb small inclines ( or over TLCB Elves… Ed.). This is your pretty standard Technic box with the orange Power Functions strip on the side. Opening it up you’ll find three bags. Two have parts and smaller bags in them, and the other contains the Power Functions components. Interestingly, the battery box was not included in this bag and instead is loose inside the box. The first thing you will notice about the Stunt Racer is that, due to its near instantaneous acceleration, the racer will perform wheelies every time you race it.I think the Technic designers have continued on a winning Technic concept with this latest Remote-Controlled Stunt Racer. All the weight is centred above the rear axle and having the battery box raised means the racer has a relatively high centre of gravity. Two pairs of 16-tooth gears transfer power from the L-Motors to the axles. A combination of 8-tooth and 24-tooth gears (not supplied) could be utilised here to change the gearing and speed of the racer. Also, because it was a bright summer's day - Christmas in the antipodes is a summer event - it was necessary to follow the racer around: the IR remotes had limited range in the bright sunlight.
