About this deal

There are plenty of Battle Traits and Battle Scars to dole out to veteran units, and three Crusade Badges to strive for as you spread your dynasty across the stars. Overall the Good is really there as we have a ton of neat options to play with, some “bad interactions” were cleaned up, and the army feels adjusted in a way that should make it fun. You’ll also find other unique Agendas on top of your Awakening Agendas, plus Requisitions that let you meddle with your tomb world’s Systems or drive damaged troops into mechanical madness .

If you play lots of Warriors and Characters, then this is hands down the most reliable of Detachments and is very hard to ignore. For getting your toys around the table, Protocol of the Sudden Storm also comes back, turning your weapons Assault, and providing re-rolls on an Advance if your unit is being lead. The downgrade to Warriors is annoying and probably too much given that they were hit with multiple reductions in efficiency, but expected.

I've always viewed them as really annoyingly-hard to kill objective grabbers, and they are now going to be that plus have a Technomancer to buff them even more. Surprised how many people are saying the codex isn't much of an improvement over the index (at least as far as strength goes). The indestructible Lychguard deathbrick has been given a stern talking to, and Warriors no longer get additional wounds reanimated at baseline (they re-roll dice instead), so there’s a solid chance you get more value out of a one-time spike than a steady clip. Sanguinius faced Fulgrim and won, Dorn charged Horus Ascended…and soon regretted it whilst Sigismund took not one, but two heads (Eidolon and Abaddon). These phalanxes are joined by techno-sorcerous war engines, scuttling constructs, and shards of shattered star gods, led to war by undying nobles with wills and bodies of unyielding metal, driven by the absolute conviction that they are the rightful rulers of the galaxy. It also does very little for Lokhust Destroyers (an issue the whole detachment has to some extent), which is unhelpful as those are a pretty good unit! A showcase from the ‘Eavy Metal team, presenting exquisitely painted Citadel miniatures and a variety of Necron dynasty colors to inspire your own creations.

The Canoptek Court: Speaking of a best detachment – the Canoptek Court looks very potent, and gives competitive players something to dive straight into. Again, only usable on a Destroyer Cult or Flayed One unit, this strat grants +1 to Hit if the enemy unit in combat is below Starting Strength and an additional +1 to Wound should the unit be also below Half-Strength.Metalodermal Tesla Weave does mortal wounds to a unit that is charging the bearer’s unit, Dimensional Sanctum gives the character and unit Infiltrate whilst Autodivinator allows you to gain CP whenever your opponent uses an ability which grants them additional CP (handy for the cool strats we’ll be moving on to shortly). Better yet, a leader with the Osteoclave Fulcrum Enhancement can do the same, treating Strategic Reserves like an extradimensional taxi service for themselves and their bodyguard. In this book you’ll find the rules you need to play a Necrons army in games of Warhammer 40,000 – including narrative Crusade campaigns and Combat Patrol skirmishes – as well as detailed background material and stunning art showcasing their ancient origins, impossibly advanced technology, and dynastic courts. It means that, should you be playing Tactical Objectives, you’ll be drawing your cards in your Command Phase and will have a unit or two off the board and potentially able to come on and achieve a card you’ve drawn, say for example Investigate Signals.

I really like the Hypercrypt Legion and Canoptek Court ones, as they both seem to have powerful abilities. It always feels like a weird missing piece in this as we see them on the tabletop but it is hard for a new player to go get one without dropping some serious cash for a rather hard-to-transport model.Same effect (bring a character back to life with half wounds remaining) only with a clearer definition of where said model reappears (as close to where they died, but outside of Engagement Range). The new Overlord with Translocation Shroud has his uses, but I’m not sure how much I’ll be using his Advance ability. What I am very hopeful for is a new Trazyn the Infinite, as he is now the only model not to have a plastic kit. For me however, the Awakened Dynasty has the simplest yet almost impossible to ignore Detachment rule, which makes picking some of the other detachments a little harder than it should be.
