While the people and environments are drawn in a traditional manga style, the dinosaurs are drawn more realistically, capturing the majesty of these massive, legendary creatures. Despite the realism throughout the series, the artwork still manages to have the dinosaurs convey loads of emotion through their body language, adding to the perception that these are beloved creatures. This fascinating art style helps add a grounded feel to the manga, which plays into the book's general tone.

In fact, it doesn't really retread any of the familiar ground from Jurassic Park. Instead of raising the moral questions that Crichton's work did, Dinosaur Sanctuary mostly looks at the idea of dinosaur park from a logistics standpoint, i.e. what is it like having to maintain the assorted dinosaurs' general well-being on the day-to-day? And more importantly, how do you maintain funding for the park and generate public interest in a world that has grown bored of dinosaurs?The first generation of dinosaurs came from Isla Sorna, [2] due to Biosyn's pillaging on the island prior to 2018. The rest of us will probably let our minds wander as we read about good-intentioned caretakers doing their jobs thoughtfully and earnestly. If the concept of a dinosaur zoo reminds you of a certain film franchise, well, it’s almost impossible not to think of Jurassic Park while reading Dinosaur Sanctuary. The major difference is that in the manga, the park works like it was supposed to in the films: Rather than the carnivores escaping and attempting to eat the human beings, the suspense and drama of Dinosaur Sanctuary comes from the care of the perfectly secured dinosaurs. Our protagonist, Suma Suzume, and her fellow zookeepers find themselves dealing the struggles of keeping their failing dinosaur zoo in good shape and making a profit while also making sure the dinosaurs themselves are well-cared for. The struggles our characters face are very similar to what real-life zookeepers must face when working at zoos and theme parks such as SeaWorld. While these real-life topics can be rather grim, Dinosaur Sanctuary never becomes outright pessimistic, keeping up a fairly optimistic tone that makes this manga fun to read.

The first chapter made me tear up, this is special. The protagonist is someone that I personally, as a huge Paleonerd, can relate to. I want more people to read this. I was always that guy who said: "You see that bird over there? Well, that's technically a dinosaur.". I love seeing that somewhere after all this time. On top of that, the dinosaurs are mostly pretty accurate which is a huge plus. I love how this manga teaches Obviously Dinosaur Sanctuary was always fated to be, at best, the 2nd best piece of fiction about a dinosaur theme park, but even so this book is really great. The sanctuary has an Aerial Deterrent System (ADS), which protects planes or helicopters from the airborne life (or vice versa). [2] It really is just the story of a girl who has just started working at one of the smaller dino parks in Japan. They're struggling a little to make money but our naïve heroine seems to be up to the task of saving the place across the series. Dinosaur Sanctuary is a manga made by Itaru Kinoshita, and the research consultant is Shin-Ichi Fujiwara. The synopsis is as follows: Well I officially LOVE this series. And also am super bummed that I caught on so early and there isn't already a bunch of volumes out. I greatly appreciate that they brought on a scientist to ensure as much accuracy as possible, and that they gave them the chance to add their own little notes between chapters.

I was one of those dino-crazed kids who spent considerable amounts of their time wondering what the world would be like if there were still some dinosaurs around and we could go see them in a controlled environment such as, say, a zoo or something, so this series' premise sounded like targeted advertising when I first read it. The child in me is beside herself: this was a wonderful read and I loved it right from the first chapter. Here dinosaurs are depicted according to the most current paleontological understanding. Thus they have feathers (even large theropods, that were not necessarily feathered, as rhino's and elephants also don't have hairs) and even the way they lay down, or move about, or eat, is thoroughly researched. This is also shown by intermezzo's from the consulting paleontologist, who explains his reasoning for some depictions. The series also has a specialist as consultant, so as much of the information and designs are as accurate as possible. Between chapters, there a lot of additional information and curiosities about the things covered in the chapters. When I first heard of this manga, I knew I had to read it—it sounded like a manga made for Jurassic Park fans! And it was SO STINKIN’ CUTE, I loved it so much. The art was amazing, and the story just hit all the right wholesome notes. It’s a little episodic/slice-of-life, so keep that in mind because I know not everyone loves that type of manga. It was more than just a cute story though—it was so fun for a science nerd like myself to read. Shin-Ichi Fujiwara acted as a research consultant for this manga, and the research notes, attention to accurate details, and cool scientific tidbits about dinosaurs made my nerdy little heart sing. I genuinely cannot wait for the next volume of this story to come out—especially after that last chapter! 😱 Apart from the dinosaurs, the sanctuary has a deer population that serves as food for the prehistoric predators.
