About this deal

Safety first! This machine has numerous pinch points between the drum and the casters, and between the belts and the pulleys. These points need to be guarded! You also want to plan a gradient for the soil etc to drift down. I can't tell you the exact angle I mounted my frame but it's probably 4 inches (100 mm) lower at the exit end. If you don't have a gradient, your sifted siftings will sit in the sifter! Plan on a height that will allow a wheelbarrow to sit underneath from either the side or the rear (exit).

Limit the mesh overlap to maximum 2 inches (50 mm) as this double layer hinders filtered material from passing through. Follow our five easy steps below, to create your own homemade soil sieve. Or, if you’d prefer to buy a ready-made sieve, we’ve also collated a selection of the best garden sieves on the market right now.Wilko’s metal garden sieve is one of the cheaper options on this guide. Made from metal, it has a powder coating to prevent rust a diameter of 36.5cm. This is an amazing machine and I'm very pleased to have it available. It should give long service and working parts are easily replaced. With all three rims cable tied into place, begin lacing the mesh overlap together. A second person here will also help. You might already have what you need to get started on making your soil sieve. If you don’t, we’ve done the hard work for you with our handy shopping list.

Complete filter system for your pond - Aquadyne pond filtration system with bead filter, pump. UV & Sieve - for crystal clear water in your pond. All pipes, valves etc included.

These scheppach rotary garden sieves won’t let anything pass that you deem too coarse. With this sieve you refine large quantities of soil or compost, or even the children‘s sandpit. The adjustable angle of the sieve drum as well asthe different mesh widths facilitate sieving the utmost variety of materials. I placed the motor and housing on a bench to establish direction of motor and size of belt I needed. This instructable is a companion to my previous Bike Spoke Forged Knife. In that instructable I used the bicycle spokes, here I've used the wheel rims. With a bit of trepidation, I wheeled the trommel out to our compost heap. Those pesky apricot stones were about to be dislodged! It occurs to me that the type of open-frame litter bin I've seen (designed to hold a plastic liner), which has a cylinder of large-size (about 2-inch squared?) wire mesh, could be repurposed instead of using bike rims, if lined with a finer-grade mesh.

Excellent build! I have an allotment with all sorts in the soil, and a load of bike wheel rims (received free!). This is something I plan to build and use in spring.HARD METAL SIEVE:Hard Metal Sieve Colander:Used For Washing,Cleaning,Draining Rice,Straining Sauces And Siftin g Flour Whilst Baking Meanwhile Colander Are A Better Option For Draining Heavier Items Like Vegetables,Pasta.

This freshly rotary hoed section of lawn needed sifting so bring out the trommel (to be honest I wouldn't have even considered doing this job without the sifter). This galvanised steel garden sieve from Crocus has a 30cm diameter and is finished with a clear lacquer. It has two handles on either side to help with grip. I cut a length of sheet metal to attach to the inside of the wheel rim. This probably helps to support the mesh but you may be able to get away without using it. I cut it 4 inches (100 mm) wide* then carefully removed the burrs with a file. I used the existing spoke holes in the rim to temporarily attach the sheet metal using lacing wire. Sieve soil & compost to get smooth, fine results. Spring loaded handle applies pressure to the compost or soil forcing it through the mesh. The mixing process – and the mixing of different soil types – can also be done with the rotary sieve. Also if you are unfortunate enough to have stony ground, you can sieve the stones and return the stone free soil to your garden. The children’s sandpit can also be regularly cleaned and sieved. I really didn't know how the machine would perform. Was the mesh too small...the rotation speed wrong; the angle of the frame incorrect...lots of decisions I'd made were about to be tested. I placed my castors in such a way that if I want to remove the tube, I can easily wind the threads into the frame, thus opening up the gap and allowing the castor to be eased from the bicycle rim.
