About this deal

A groundbreaking book showing the link between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and adult illnesses such as heart disease, autoimmune disease, and cancer—Childhood Disrupted also explains how to cope with these emotional traumas and even heal from them. Let's just hope that there's currently a sequel in the works. There's no way Jennifer Jaynes can leave it at that. Or is there?

I think (as a Christian) the Bible should be disturbing-it should make people stop & think about their lives & maybe question everything they thought they knew! I had this read in a matter of hours, so I'm happy to say my second experience with this author was much better than my first! ( The Stranger Inside and I didn't get along well) There were also a couple of supporting characters who didn’t get anywhere NEAR enough time to shine or deepen the plot. And that was a big missed opportunity I think. Once the story starts nearing the endgame, what little fluff there was gets jettisoned to keep the story moving along. But I think a few more chapters from the supporting characters would have gone a long way in enhancing the narrative and given us even more possible suspects in the “who wants to slice up Chelsea 2.0” mystery. Erin wrote: "I think that it is ridiculous and completely sacrilegious that someone would put the bible on this list! It doesn't matter if you do not agree with their religion or not things like this are just rude"

I second GENITAL GRINDER by Ryan Harding, brilliant stories though I was not impressed with the last one in the book. So far as I can recall, The Bible is the only book that has disturbed me badly enough that I had to quit reading for a period of time. (Correction: a guide to The Bible for children had the same effect, but I can't remember its name.) So The Bible being on my list is not a troll, nor is it intended to be impolite. When a friendly Halloween party turned into a blood bath leaving Chelsea as the lone survivor, her life has never been the same. And they never caught the murderer. Is he still out there? Watching? Waiting?

Still I knew: I was fortunate to be alive, and I was determined to live the fullest life possible. If the muscles in my hands didn’t cooperate, I clasped an oversized pencil in my fist to write. If I couldn’t get up the stairs because my legs resisted, I sat down halfway up and rested. I gutted through days battling flulike fatigue—pushing away fears about what might happen to my body next; faking it through work phone calls while lying prone on the floor; reserving what energy I had for moments with my children, husband, and family life; pretending that our “normal” was really okay by me. It had to be—there was no alternative in sight. the description is most DISTURBING books ever written. And I gotta say the bible definitely belongs up there. This isn't about sacrilege. I mean, Have you ever read it? Genuinely disturbing. Bella wrote: "I love Night, by Elie Wiesel, but it is disturbing. It is a must read about the Holocaust, and you will remember it..." In what might be an ironic twist of fate, it’s the dark and disturbing books that teach one to be optimistic. No matter how bad your life is, at least you aren’t eaten from the inside out by hungry rats. The middle of the book seemed to take a different pace, and focused a little more on Chelsea's relationship and the issues that came with it, and for a little bit I thought it was odd that the book was taking that direction, however everything tied together in the end, and it all made sense, so if you read the book and start thinking it's losing its thrilling edge, just you wait!
