Briggs, Katharine Mary (1976) An Encyclopedia of Fairies, Hobgoblins, Brownies, Boogies, and Other Supernatural Creatures. New York, Pantheon Books. "Seelie Court", p.353. [13] In 2000, it received an Alex Award from the American Library Association. [14] Adaptations [ edit ]

It was the perfect amount of whimsy for me. Odd and charming, but not confusing. It’s just classic fairytale fantasy with witches, royalty, talking objects, magic and more. Victoria (apple of his eye) demands for Tristan crosses the boundary between our world and theirs in search of a fallen star. I loved it. I loved the story, the world, the characters, the usual quirkiness of the writing. This world was amazing and so utterly magical and so much fun, it reminded me why I love Neil Gaiman's work so much. When Yvaine evades him and escapes, Tristran discovers he is not the only one in pursuit of the star: there are dark forces in this magical land, and he must find Yvaine before she falls into their clutches. As he does so, Tristran will uncover the secret to his own identity and a fate beyond his wildest dreams. Stardust is unashamedly a romance. Not only because it’s plot chiefly concerns a fairy tale quest for a lady’s hand, but also because it has all the magic and mystery of Victorian romanticism behind it making it very much feel like George McDonald for grownups. That being said, there is far more here, far more by way of detail, plot and beauty than you’d find in a standard fairy tale, even most of the modern retellings, from probably the most likable incarnations of typical characters you could imagine, to the trademark Gaiman dark surreal humour and subtle convolution. I really enjoyed Stardust. Say what you want about Gaiman (no really, I already do) but he is a master of whimsy with a great imagination. Stardust has all the likable aspects of Neverwhere whilst managing to have a main character who is not a whiny, little annoying bitch! I was actually quite fond of this novel! We shall visit my parents. I have missed them- although Tristan had barely given his parents a second thought on his journeying’s- then we shall pay a visit to Victoria Forester.” The characters were superficial. We didn't learn anything about anyone. They don't have personality.

Okay so I'm four starring this right now but honestly it might be higher. I DON'T KNOW. I FORGET HOW TO LIKE BOOKS. Tropes show how literature is conceptualized and created and which mixture of elements makes works and genres unique:It was at one such gathering that young Dunstan, then but a lad of seventeen, first encountered the beautiful slave girl imprisoned by the villainous witch who had cursed her to a life of servitude. Though their time together was brief, the two shared an intimate encounter that would change the course of Dunstan's life forever. For that brief union under the stars produced a child, a son, whom the enslaved maiden secretly sent over the wall to live in the human world shortly after giving birth, entrusting the boy to be raised by his unknowing father. Yet when Tristran returned to her, Victoria's reception was not what he had so idealized. For in his absence, the vain Victoria had foreseen that Tristran might indeed make good on his word, and came to regret making a drunken pledge of betrothal she had not truly meant. She confessed to Tristran that she never had faith that he would cross the wall and retrieve the fallen star, and that while she remained bound by her oath to marry, she rued having made it.
