About this deal

Not only is it well made and packed with cool features, but it's fun and inspires imaginative playing as any good toy should. Some of the very small accessories may not be suitable for very young children, but even if you take those away for safety reasons, the actual campervan remains an excellent toy. Just like the great original, PLAYMOBIL Volkswagen models have experienced many adventures, because true fans take their VW with them everywhere. No word on the pricing of these two classic rides, but knowing Playmobil they’ll likely be slightly cheaper than you’re thinking.

The two special edition Volkswagen vehicles will include an individual serial number from a limited production run. Away from the actual van, the set also includes two Playmobil figures and a load of camping accessories such as food, toothbrushes, cushions and even a (non-functioning) camera.

It features a roof rack with working restraints and a removable sunroof that allows for some open-top motoring. The rear seat folds out to make a double bed making this a proper camper, even if it's missing essentials like a toilet or oven. Playmobil currently offers a nice selection of fully-licensed Porsches and two classic VWs, the Beetle, and the very cool T1 Camping Bus you can see now. And while there are no options to change the wheels or bumpers, they do look fantastic, and the clip-on VW hubcaps are a particularly nice touch. The limited edition 70826 Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus and 70827 Volkswagen Beetle will come with a fresh new look and extra features.

Each vehicle will include an individual serial number from a limited production run, making them a must have for fans and collectors. When I was asked to review the Playmobil VW Camper Van recently, I jumped at the chance — obviously it’s really for the boys, but I feel like my childhood dream has finally come true.Made from plastic and suitable for children aged five and up, this VW T1 Camping Van should be able to bridge the gap and make an accurate model that is genuinely child-friendly.

Despite having a fully modelled air-cooled engine in the rear, you may be surprised to find out that the campervan doesn't actually move under its own power. In true style, the interior of the T1 offers a folding table with two seats and a sink with refrigerator. You can also choose between two colourful sticker sheets with wedding or flower motifs that give your vehicle a particularly individual touch. While I'll admit it hasn't had the same extensive usage that one wielded by a child would but it has been fiddled with and used for more than one photo shoot. Motorhome in a class of its own: the roof and side wall of the camper can be removed for even more fun.

Of course also the PLAYMOBIL version has many characteristic details, such as the iconographic V-shaped front end with red and white colour separation and red VW logo, rounded roof, split windshield and removable roof rack. Even with the tongue-in-cheek jabs at its driving characteristics, we were thoroughly impressed with this campervan.

Despite the generous 38x15/1 tyres (yes, they do have that inscribed on them), any trip this camper takes on anything other than a flat surface is sure to rearrange anything not secured down. For more on Playmobil’s ranges for 2021, see the in depth interview which ran in the March edition of Toy World. Coming in 2021 from Zirndorf, Germany’s famous toy company is a pair of iconic Volkswagen rides that translate perfectly to Playmobil style. They're too heavy and delicate to be safe and aren't much fun to play with compared to a tiny toy car. Just as legendary is the second addition to the PLAYMOBIL Volkswagen fleet: The Volkswagen Beetle is a true classic that was the top-selling car in the world.

Playmobil, the German company which makes brilliant plastic toys for children has recently turned its attention to creating some tasty cars. I've owned this Playmobil VW T1 for two months now and I'm happy to report that it hasn't broken or disintegrated even a little bit.
