About this deal
The book ends on a cliffhanger. It’s somewhat intriguing, but I certainly won’t be reading the sequel. If for whatever reason, after reading this review, you’re still inclined to read Once Upon a Broken Heart, you might want to hold off on doing so until the sequel is out, as this will leave you with too many loose plot threads and unanswered questions – more than any book should. I know, I know, I sound half-insane- but get this, I haven't stopped thinking about this book for about three days. I need to get all the creepy and crazy Booksy out of my system. And with that, let's continue All The Ways Booksy Can Fangirl Without Giving The Neighbors Pure Nosebleeds Because Of The High Celine Dion Notes.
People called it falling out of love, but falling was easy. She’d clawed her way out, fighting to shake it off, to let it go, to find something else to hold on to.” Want a candy apple, ruffled, knee-length dress with the scent of baby powder and dandruff? Yeah, me neither. But Garber tells me that THAT is the fashion in the 'magic' world? HAHAHAHAAHA, does anybody have some dandruff to spare? Anyway I hope he will have a bigger role in the future. I actually think he and Ev can have a really nice friendship if given the chance. A dazzling mix of mystery, romance, and magic’ Karen M. McManus, #1 New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying i absolutely adored this universe. it was just so magical and enchanted. the curses, the potions, the prophesies, and true love being the end all be all. my hopelessly romantic heart was living for this.i think that the guilt aspect of this book wasn’t bad. there wasn’t any repetition and it isn’t mentioned constantly or anything which definitely shows character development since she’s written caraval. i appreciated the way that evangeline’s emotions were portrayed bc i loved it. it wasn’t spectacular or anything but it definitely was far from bad. i felt like there wasn’t much drama in this book. I believe there are far more possibilities than happily ever after or tragedy. Every story has the potential for infinite endings.”
He held on to her as if she were a grudge, his body rigid ad tense, as if he really didn't want her there, and yet his arms were tight around her waist as though he had no intention of ever letting her go.” yes i took my time with this because this book made me so happy and the streets are saying i’m in for heartbreak in the next book and i just don’t think i’m ready. and the last chapter of this book literally gave me chills. i was shook. ofc i must go jump into book two now. About this book I loved EVERYTHING. The plot, the writing, the characters, the little plot twists, but what I loved more was this fairytale vibe that completely enchanted me. I loved the writing so much. Despite of not liking Caraval as much as I would've loved to, I did like the writing because somehow it felt magical. I really loved the soft descriptions of places, feelings, colors, etc.Even if he really is grey I loved every single interaction between he and Ev. I really can’t wait to discover their relationship more 🙌 I was literally swooning every time he was in the scene. His looks, the way he carried himself, PERRRRFECT! Enchanting and mysterious’ Renée Ahdieh, New York Times bestselling author of The Wrath and the Dawn The fates weren’t dangerous because they were evil; the fates were dangerous because they couldn’t tell the difference between evil and good.” I can separate this book into two parts: Before Evangeline Drinks the Poison and After Evangeline Drinks the Poison. I enjoyed the Before part, as After Evangeline Drinks the Poison is where Stephanie Garber seems to have forgotten the novel she promised to readers, and began writing something else entirely. Ergo, the plot had gone haywire. It was mouthwatering, and honestly... boo, teach me how to write like that, because hot dang! I need some of that 'SPWICE'.
The plot was fast pacing, there was never a dull moment and I loved it. It reminded me of a Cinderella retelling in some moments and it was done superbly.I felt loved, hated, tearful, frustrated, blessed, infatuated, obsessed, sad, angry and if I had all the time in the world (let's face it, even if I did, I would be all, THIS BOOK WAS IUGFCDXERFTGYHUIJKJNHBGVFCDXERTFGYHUJI. The sacred language of fangirling everywhere)I could explain all of those emotions one by one. Alas, I do not have enough time, nor the necessary brain cells to bestow upon my charcoal masked face the ability to express myself with something akin to intelligence. For as long as she can remember, Evangeline Fox has believed in happily ever after. Until she learns that the love of her life is about to marry another, and her dreams are shattered. i want you, evangeline fox. i want to write ballads for you on the walls of wolf hall and carve your name on my heart with swords. i want you to be my wife and my princess and my queen." I'll never understand humans....All of you seem to welcome our lies, but you never like it when we tell the truth.” The writing is not that bad but tbh it's not special either. I've heard people say it's quite beautifully written and maybe it was like that for them- but it came across as ordinary to me. I was more invested in it cause of the main characters and the storyline.
