About this deal

I still like and use imperial more than metric and prefer it, despite metric-only users from mainland Europe not understanding why. Mine came with a slightly different aluminium fence profile than the one shown in the pictures above (It looks like the one on the Laguna picture).

The actual function of the measuring tape, with its very fine divisions, together with the lens cursor, is very good indeed and, once calibrated, extremely accurate. The magnets on the Magswitch products seem to be even stronger so, if you make your own and use the Magswitches I wouldn't think you would have any problems. Two 24" lengths of 3/4" thick x 1-1/2" tall Double Track aluminum extrusions serve as the front and rear fence rails. The adjustment bolts are indeed not conveniently located and the fence does need regular adjustments so I share the frustration… but it’s not as bad as adjusting the lower bearing guide assembly (I’m wondering what the engineers were thinking when they designed it as it’s not very rigid and has hard to access nuts and bolts which can move in too many directions). If you have a sufficiently heavy "soft face" mallet, a magnetic fence can be adjusted in the active position. To use a blade on the other side of the blade you could also leave the new fence in place and put the old one on the opposite side of the blade. The fence cut this piece of peruvian walnut and another (not pictured) piece of cherry with no trouble.

One thing I would worry about is if the magnets are strong enough to hold alignment while ripping a big heavy thick board; something I do a lot on the bandsaw. Woodworking is your worldwide home for discussion of all things woodworking, carpentry, fine furniture, power tools, hand tools, and just about anything else about making - anything - from trees! Combine it with large rural areas not on the east or west coasts which had grandparent era memories of forced 1930s farm commodity manipulation by the central government.

Thanks Randy, this is just the advice I needed to read - and wanted to read tbh - as I'm enamored of the idea. That shortsighted decision has come back to haunt me, as I’ve gradually found many reasons for making straight cuts on the bandsaw, including resawing and stopped cuts such as inside corners. I decided on the Kregg Precision fence as a replacement knowing that their fences were not designed for European bandsaws but more the US bandsaws like Jet, Delta, Rigid, Craftsman and others.

I think it’s because of the intermittent increments of feet and then inches and then half inches, quarter inches, eighths and so on.A 24" length of 3/4" thick x 3" tall Ultra Track aluminum extrusion serves as the fence and clamps to both rails, making it the most rigid fence available. Delta bandsaw, I figured it would be used only for curved work, like rough-cutting cabriole legs, so I didn’t bother purchasing a fence for it.
