About this deal

We still get support for an extensive range of processor platforms, from AMD's AM4 and AM5 sockets, to Intel's LGA1700, LGA1200 and LGA115x offerings. So a lot of factors to consider, especially when you’re planning on building your system within a certain budget. Cooler Master's Hyper 212 has been a stalwart entry-level cooler for ages, to the point any enthusiast who has been around a few years knows of it and its near-legendary status.

It is wide enough that it does shroud the RAM or power diodes on my board but is raised enough that it still fits (on my motherboard). So we’re talking around 37 degrees Celsius idle and 90 degrees Celsius under load which is still hot, but remember the fan speed was set to about 1,400 rpm. I also did some overclocking to see how this cooler can handle it and I used the Ryzen master software to overclock the 2600X to 4.

Being more of a mid-range CPU air cooler, the Hyper 212 Halo Black has a pretty slim cooling tower design, where it comes with a stack of 50 fins in an offset arrangement that should improve airflow through the fins. It doesn’t matter if you’re a student on a tight budget, a graphic designer that’s brand new to building, or a veteran modder of high-end gaming PCs; we offer components to inspire creative freedom in everyone. Assemble the back plate by placing the through-hole screws into the notches on the edge and then locking them into place with the plastic end pieces.

While I did not have a proper decibel meter with which to measure the noise output from the Hyper 212 Halo Black, I made do with a noise measurement app on my smartphone instead to get a rough estimate, and recorded an average noise level of around 48dB when the fan was running at increased speed, while the test bench was running Cinebench R23's multi core test. The reverse side of the fan reveals a few more details such as the part number (A12025-20RB-4BP-F1) as well as it’s voltage and current ratings.

The fan mounts used to attach the fan to the heatsink are another difference between the two coolers. With the cooler secured to our toasty Intel Core i7-7700K let's see how this Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition performed! One of the Hyper 212 Halo Black's key features is its new and improved fan - a MasterFan MF120 HALO² part. This is important as the fan blocks access to the screws used to tighten down the heatsink to the back plate assembly. For today's article, we'll be taking a look at a new Hyper 212 variant for the year 2023 - the Hyper 212 Halo Black. Overall, it’s REALLY difficult for me to find anything negative to say about the new Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition coolers. For the RGB edition, connect the 4-pin RGB plug either into a supporting motherboard, or LED controller. These noise levels were recorded with my phone placed 30cm away from the fan of the Hyper 212 Halo Black. I have tested this venerable cooler more than once over the years, but it has proven to be such a vital part of any CPU air-cooling discussion that it demands to be part of every cooler review lineup.
