About this deal

With the torch both off and on, press and hold the MODE button to access the TURBO level; release the button to switch off or to return to the previous light level set. The Nitecore T4K keyring light has an incredible maximum output of 4000 lumens from the 4 x Cree XP-L2 V6 LEDs and is powered by a built-in, 1000mAh li-ion battery. The flashlight is rechargeable via a USB-C port at the base of the torch and comes with a USB-C to USB charging cable.

As the light is IP54 rated only, the light was subjected to being left under room temperature running water whilst running on HIGH. With the flashlight both on and off, press the POWER and MODE buttons simultaneously to switch between the DEMO and DAILY modes. The LED will flash to indicate the currently selected mode: I feel like if there’d been a higher “normal” mode, like 500 lumens, or a lower but longer turbo mode, then there’d be more utility, but the jump from 200 to 4000 (or, if you look at it another way, 4000 down to 200) lumens is just too great. It’s an impressive spectacle, but it shoehorns the light into the “fun toy” category. A rubber flap covers the USB-C charging port and it charges the supplied battery in around 80 minutes. All my top ten torches that have USB-C charging charge with both a USB-C to USB-A and USB-C to USB-C cable so I won’t specifically mention this from now on. With the torch off, by pressing the “MODE” key, the display shows for a few seconds the level and user mode set and the current voltage with the drawing of the battery.

The Fenix PD25R comes with a USB-C to USB-A charging cable, spare o-rings, a lanyard, a user manual, and rather surprisingly a little mini pouch for your belt.

The interface is very easy to use. Press the power button to turn it on and then the mode button to cycle from ultralow 67 hour 1 lumen mode, to 21 hour 15 lumen low mode, 7 hour 65 lumen mid mode and the 2 hour 45 minute 200 lumen high mode. Press and hold the mode button with the torch on or off for the headline grabbing 4000 lumen turbo mode which is insanely bright for any torch let alone one this size. Press and hold the power button with the torch off to access ultralow mode. There’s no strobe function. The display shows the brightness level and time remaining for each mode. In turbo there’s a countdown progress bar that lasts up to 10 seconds depending on the temperature of the torch. You can keep pressing it but the torch gets very hot and the turbo lasts a progressively shorter time. While that may initially seem like a bad thing, trust me, it’s not. Without this feature, you could seriously burn yourself if this light was left on accidentally. At 3.4V, the buttons will light up blue once every two seconds – I feel this is quite high, and 3.1 or 3V would be perfectly fine. There’s a few torches that didn’t make this top ten but deserve a mention. The Olight Baton 3 Pro is the most compact 18650 torch I’ve tested and almost the perfect EDC torch. Olight Baton 3 Pro (natural white version) in turbo mode I measured a colour temperature of 5612K with a slight green tint and a CRI of 66. That doesn’t sound hugely impressive but for its size and intended use I didn’t have any issues with it.This unit is ridiculously bright when in Turbo mode, and it’s not surprising that Nitecore included a warning in its documentation about shining this light into someone’s eyes. The magnetic charging cable snaps onto the magnetic tailcap of the torch with a full charge taking up to 3.5 hours. The LED on the charging cable changes from red to green when fully charged. I did find this often turned green a little early – but it still continued to charge slowly.

As the post inside the anodised part is rounded, it won’t just slip on. You need to fully actuate the button to slide the clip on; it isn’t angled like the latch on a door. The Thrunite T1S comes in a plain box with a lanyard, spare o-rings and spare rubber flaps for the USB charging port, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable and a user manual. Given that Turbo only works for 10 seconds, I won’t be stressing the light by hitting turbo over and over again; it doesn’t really result in much, as the light gets heat-soaked, and turbo lasts for shorter and shorter periods until it lasts for less than 1 second. I’ve run High and Mid, though, as I believe these will be the most commonly used modes for longer periods of time. I also use one for running sometimes three times a week at the moment with these short days. I’ve already started collecting the best options I can find for another roundup – that video and article should be out soon! In the highest turbo mode I measured 465 lumens at turn on, 462 lumens after 10 seconds, 458 after 30 seconds, and dropped to around 220 lumens after 2 minutes where it remained for the rest of my measurements. It would be nice if there was an actual TURBO mode within 500 to 1,00 lumens range, rather than a 4,000 lumens MOMENTARY TURBO mode. However, Nitecore probably went with a MOMENTARY TURBO instead, much like the Nitecore TM10K model. Tint & CRI The Nitecore TK4 flashlight has 4 CREE XP-L2 V6 LEDs with a max output of 4000 lumens, a max peak beam intensity of 10,900cd, and a max throw of 682 feet/209 meters.
