About this deal

To help the reel cast further than any other Penn has fitted the Affinity LC 8000 with a long tapered spool. Forged from aluminium, this spool is able to reel line off in large, high-speed, coils. This ensures that maximum momentum is maintain throughout the cast, enabling the line reach out as far as possible – all without the risk of tangles. The spool is also slow oscillating. This ensures you get perfect line lay on the retrieve which, in turn, sets the reel up perfectly for the next cast. Everything about the Penn Affinity LC 8000 spool has been designed to get you those vital extra few meters with each cast.

Mine have been used and abused week in week out for years and are still perfect, done zero maintenance on them. New ones look very cool with the carbon fibre. If I didn't already use a set of 7000s I'd definitely be looking at these new ones. Correct , better tooling and modern materials and computer aided manufacturing it's called progress I was under the assumption that they were reworking the handle and grip . If its just a baitrunner version being brought out this summer then I must of misread something else where. I accept the penn is a little more refined but that could be classed as over engineering in an item that essentially retrieves line from the water.Sold Shimano baby pits for these reels last summer because I was trying to be tarty - terrible decision

mine will be here in morning hope there as good as everyone says they are! getting rid of ma shimano LC for them :/ Talk about rose tinted spectacles..........They don't look bad but the handle is RATS. Sorry but just not convinced

New version has a different drag knob, only comes with 1 handle, and no spare spool. Not sure about the internals. Both bloody good reels They are still way ahead of many top end reels. I would not worry about "quality" with the Affinity. Designed for the angler who aspires towards incredible long range casting, this Affinity 8000 is a limited edition reel from Penn which can more than go the distance. This is one big pit that is perfect for any distance carp angler. I remember all the hype when they were first released but, was it all hype or are they as good as first thought.

Like i said im sure you notice the difference in weight (whether walking around a lake or not). i noticed a difference when changing reels this year in terms of distance casting, felt weird to me at first like it was less solid but that soon changed as i got used to it and of course I prefer lighter. What is the deal with these reels? If someone could outline the reasons behind why this thread is quite popular that would be great. To be fair I’d have thought this is true for every company out there, with a few models supported well with spares and others being almost disposable; after all, very few people actually run anything into the ground these days. One look at the 2nd hand market tells you that..The only reason its this version being shouted about is its a carp badged version of oje thats been available for a while now. Ok its a different colour and you get two mono spools rather than one for pe lines. Sign of the times...Abu did the same but soon regretted it. The top end Penn reels are still US made. Emcast advanced considering these as all big pits are sea reels mine didnt like the surf gettig grindy with a bit of sand and corroding after the first visit despite being washed thouroughly. In a word yes BUT with shimano reels dropping all the prices i would look at one of their models depending on budget
