About this deal

The underground Minute Men organization has repeatedly seen many of its members captured, tortured, and eliminated. One such is Andrew Durant who has been subjected to intensive interrogation and has seen the failure of several others of his cohorts who succumb to torture and betray what information that they possessed. Only Durant and another Minuteman named ’Christian’ have withstood the 'test' and each is given a new mission designed to hasten the advent of the restored Republic of the United States. The Torturer in Chief is secretly a very highly placed official who provides the subjects with new identities and credentials to be used in forwarding the mission. When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something.” Though, this is still a 4⭐️ read, I didn’t enjoy it as much as past work-as Eddie Flynn and his clever cross examinations are what make the series so entertaining! We weren’t in the courtroom nearly long enough for my preferences! Grobel, Lawrence (2008). Al Pacino. New York, London, Toronto and Sydney: Simon and Schuster. ISBN 978-1-41695556-6.

Given its subject matter and general plot I thought I'd really like this book. But, I didn't. It is a story about an attempt to bring down a horribly tyrannical future U.S. government. My fundamental problem is that the whole approach to how the good guys were going to do this seemed really unrealistic. (I won't put in Levi, Ross D. (2005). The Celluloid Courtroom: A History of Legal Cinema. Westport, CT and London: Greenwood Publishing Group. ISBN 0-27598233-5. Eddie Barzoon, the firm's managing partner, is convinced that Kevin is competing for his job after discovering Kevin's name on the firm's charter and threatens to inform the United States Attorney's office of the firm's activities. Kevin tells Milton about Eddie's threats, but Milton seems to dismiss them; during the conversation, Eddie is beaten to death in Central Park by vagrants with demonic appearances. After Kevin wins this case, the feeling of satisfaction in his work is not there this time. Something is seriously wrong with this law firm, and his wife has changed in uncomfortable ways while he was not paying attention. Is it too late for him?

Korn had an unusual distaste for human life in general. He told himself it didn’t really matter what color his victims were. They all screamed and died the same. Yet, the underlying racism of authority in the South was ever present. He’d seen it his whole career. But this was the first time he’d heard it spoken aloud in a more public conversation. This wasn’t a whispered discussion among two conspirators. It was out in the open now. The silence which followed the statement was not uncomfortable. If anything, it felt natural for it to come out in the open now, in these times.” Robb, Brian J. (2003). Keanu Reeves: An Excellent Adventure (2ed.). Plexus Publishing. ISBN 0-85965313-7.

Iannucci argues the plot follows the Divine Comedy model in beginning with selva oscura, in Lomax losing his conscience defending a guilty man, and then entering and exploring deeper circles of Hell. [17] Iannucci compares the office building structure to the circles, listing fireplaces where flames are always present; demonic visual phenomena; and water outside Milton's office, analogized to Dante's Satan's icy home, albeit situated at the top of Hell as opposed to the bottom. [18] Free will is also a major theme in the Divine Comedy, with the film's musings on the concept being similar to Dante's Purgatorio, 16.82–83 ("if the present world has gone astray, in you is the cause, in you it's to be sought"). [19] So Eddie and his friend and mentor, former judge Harry Forbes (who now works as a consultant on Eddie’s cases), head to Alabama. It is clear from the start that they are most unwelcome in the town. Neither of the hotels, which have vacancy signs lit, will give them a room. Everyone in the town is convinced of Andy’s guilt. The next day Eddie’s law partner, Kate Brooks, and their investigator, former police officer Bloch, arrive in town. At least they manage to swing some rooms for them. With The Devil’s Advocate, we’ve reached book six in Steve Cavanagh’s highly acclaimed series featuring New York-based con man-turned-attorney Eddie Flynn. And hold onto your hats folks, because this time Eddie has left the Big Apple behind!

Commonweal called it as “[a] superior novel, intricately worked out at several levels of human and spiritual quest...” The New York Times described it as “[a] reading experience of real emotional intensity.” [5] Some reviewers compared him favorably with Graham Greene.
