A symbol invented by John Dee, alchemist and astrologer at the court of Elizabeth I of England. It represents (from top to bottom): the moon; the sun; the elements; and fire. The evil eye is a legend or a curse that can be cast via a malevolent glare and it is usually sent to the target when the individual is not aware. It can cause injury or misfortune in the life of the target.

A sigil used in rituals invoking Lucifer, first recorded in the 18th-century True Grimoire. Known among Theistic Satanists as the Seal of Satan, the symbol is also associated with music groups including Zeal & Ardor. The squares are strongly magic squares. And the entire diagram consists of 36 of these small squares, 6 columns, and 6 rows. De Guaita, Stanislas (1897). Essais de sciences mandites (in French). Vol.La Clef de la magie noire. Chamuel. Many pleasures revered before the advent of Christianity were condemned by the new religion. It required little change-over to transform the horns and cloven hooves of Pan into a most convincing devil! Pan's attributes could neatly be changed into charged-with-punishment sins, and so the metamorphosis was complete. [67] Aleister Crowley [ edit ] Part of a series on

Gilmore, High Priest, Magus Peter H. "Sigil of Baphomet". www.churchofsatan.com. {{ cite web}}: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list ( link) Another name for the arrow is Belomancy. It is an ancient symbol in all sense of the word. And has found its way into divination in many cultures. The tetractys is a equidistant and equiangular arrangement of ten points inside a triangle, akin to the fourth triangle number. It was developed by Pythagoras, and collectively signifies cosmic unity in the form of The Decad, as well as the musica universalis, or collective abstraction of the music generated by heavenly cosmic bodies. It also represents the four elements of nature, as well as the dimensional organization of space-time. Learning and adhering to its metaphysical knowledge was a requirement inside the occult Pythagorean religions. While modern scholars and the Oxford English Dictionary [34] state that the origin of the name Baphomet was a probable Old French version of "Mahomet", [18] [29] alternative etymologies have also been proposed. The name Baphomet comes up in several of these dubious confessions. [3] Peter Partner states in his 1987 book The Knights Templar and their Myth: "In the trial of the Templars one of their main charges was their supposed worship of a heathen idol-head known as a Baphomet (Baphomet = Mahomet)." [18] The description of the object changed from confession to confession; some Templars denied any knowledge of it, while others, who confessed under torture, described it as being either a severed head, a cat, or a head with three faces. [19] The Templars did possess several silver-gilt heads as reliquaries, [20] including one marked capud lviii m, [21] another said to be St. Euphemia, [22] and possibly the actual head of Hugues de Payens. [23] The claims of an idol named Baphomet were unique to the Inquisition of the Templars. [24] [25] Karen Ralls, author of the Knights Templar Encyclopedia, argues that it is significant that "no specific evidence [of Baphomet] appears in either the Templar Rule or in other medieval period Templar documents.": [26]Crowley, Aleister (December 1996). Louis Wilkinson (ed.). The Law is for All: The Authorized Popular Commentary of Liber Al Vel Legis sub figura CCXX, The Book of the Law. Thelema Media. ISBN 978-0-9726583-8-6. pentagram, a five-pointed star, usually drawn by using one continuous line of five straight segments. It has been used throughout history as a symbol, often in magic or the occult. Its meaning has varied wildly over time, and it has functioned as a symbol of protection, of perfection, of the Devil, and of humanity, among others. Mathematically, the segments of the pentagram exhibit the golden ratio, which perhaps makes the figure especially aesthetically pleasing. A magical diagram, composed of two circles, a pentagram, and three heptagons, and is labeled with the name of God and his angels. a b Waite, Class I, §2: "Since 1856 the influence of Eliphas Lévi and his doctrine of occultism has changed the face of this card, and it now appears as a pseudo-Baphometic figure with the head of a goat and a great torch between the horns; it is seated instead of erect, and in place of the generative organs there is the Hermetic caduceus." Place, Robert M. (2005). The Tarot: History, Symbolism and Divination. New York: Jeremy P. Tarcher/Penguin. ISBN 978-1-58542-349-1.

Crowley proposed that Baphomet was derived from "Father Mithras". In his Confessions he describes the circumstances that led to this etymology: [71] The Pentagram is a symbol of a star encased in a circle. Always with 5 points, each has its own meaning. The upward point of the star is representative of the spirit. The other four points all represent an element; earth, air, fire, and water. The pentagram has long been believed to be a potent protection against evil, a symbol of conflict that shields the wearer and the home. The pentagram has five spiked wards and a womb shaped defensive, protective pentagon at the centre. ⛧ Inverted Pentagram emoji Ketterer, David (1987). Imprisoned in a tesseract: The Life and Work of James Blish. Kent State University Press. ISBN 978-0-87338-334-9. However, this posed a problem for King Philip IV of France after the end of his country’s war with Britain. He was in debt to the Templar and wasn’t certain that he would be able to come up with the money to repay the group. However, he didn’t want to risk not paying because ignoring the debt could result in a military coup by the Templars. Instead, he thought of another way to get out of paying. This engraving may have been taken from elsewhere or it may have been created by de Guaita’s secretary and assistant Oswald Wirth as noted below. Not to be confused with Bahamut or Behemoth. An 1856 depiction of the Sabbatic Goat from Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie by Éliphas Lévi. [1] [2] The arms bear the Latin words SOLVE (dissolve) and COAGULA (coagulate). Modern interpretations and usage [ edit ] The Sigil of Baphomet, the official insignia of the Church of Satan and LaVeyan Satanism, also used to symbolise Satanism. In fact, Crowley’s previously mentioned comment about the name “BAPHOMET” continues with some interesting notions. He writes, “[…] BAPHOMET, in which three vowels are equilibrated with five consonants. He is also BABALON after a certain mystery, and Zeus Arrhenoteleus. Hence the allusion at the end of this sentence.” [10] These are very curious comments for multiple reasons. First of all, he is equating Baphomet with Babalon. This is likely Babalon in a particular aspect or form, as Babalon is usually designated to Binah as the complement to Chaos/Therion in Chokmah. The key to understanding this comes later in The Vision & the Voice when it is revealed that, “BABALON (who is speaking through one of Her ministers) is the Feminine (or Androgyne) equivalent and not merely complement — of Pan. This is shewn in many of Her images.” [11]
