About this deal

Where How To Be An F1 Driver scores is in opening up an understanding just how much work ethic is involved in ever getting established in the elite sport. The stuff you don’t hear about at the time all comes to light in autobiographies when enough time has passed that nobody will care anymore (hopefully) and I learnt a lot about what went on within his teams, with his teammates and especially with his team managers. So I was keen to find out how he portrays himself and whether he addresses the very issues things he has been accused of. There was an emotional chapter in which Jenson talks about his dad’s death and what happened the night he died.

Reviews of classic and contemporary sports books – my personal take on the sports books I've read (and mostly loved). Po gigantycznym rozczarowaniu, jakim była publikacja Davida Coultharda, z nieco większą ostrożnością sięgnąłem po książkę Jensona Buttona. His time with Villeneuve and Hamilton comes in for some criticism, and I think it’s fair to say that Flavio won’t be getting Christmas cards from him, however he’s also open enough to admit where he’s at fault. The chapter with him talking about his dad's death was truly heartwarming and brought tears to my eyes. s. And Jack Hawkins gives a very good rendering of the book, his voice not too dissimilar to that of the authod, the nuanced way in which he speaks captured pretty well.

The book is not narrated by Jenson Button, himself, although he does give an introduction, stating that he's a driver not a narrator - that he leaves to the professiona!

I've just read the book, How To Be An F1 Driver, written by Jenson Button, and released this week (in Australia). In 2009 he won the World Championship for the unsponsored Brawn Racing team in one of the most incredible, against-the-odds sports stories of the century. And as it happens, Santa popped it under my tree and before the Boxing Day turkey curry had even been cooked, I’d already started it.

Jenson Button to celebrate new book at Silverstone Jenson Button will celebrate the publication of How to be an F1 Driver with a live event at Silverstone Motor Circuit this Saturday (19 October). He takes you inside what it’s really like to be an F1 driver – not just the bits you see on screen, but all the rest that you’ve always wanted to know about – the parties, the lifestyle, the fashion faux pas – it’s all there. A Honda ambassador, he is also co-owner of Rocket Motorsport and co-founder of Leger cycling apparel. And to get to 10,000 hours in a sport that is both expensive and time consuming you must have a huge level of parental support. It was also great fun to hear about Jenson's "lazy playboy" reputation in the earlier days (or as the TikTok girlies put it, his infamous sl*g era) from the man himself, and he definitely had a few Monaco-based tales which raised my eyebrows a few centimetres. I think any F1 fan would enjoy this, but one thing that confused me was that he swayed between different motorsports. A few entertaining stories from behind the scenes of F1 but if you've seen recent interviews promoting this then you'll have already heard all the interesting parts. How to be an F1 Driver will recreate the sights, sounds and smells of being in the cockpit travelling at over 200 miles per hour, the fear of death, what happens when it goes wrong at high speed and the euphoria of crossing the line in first.
