About this deal

Thanks to their Hollywood tuning and superb colour accuracy, Panasonic TVs have always been the best choice for viewing movies and high-quality TV series. In 2021, guided by its See it all. Feel it all concept, Panasonic is using this expertise to further improve the immersive viewing enjoyment of sports, gaming, streaming, and all other content. In terms of HDR formats, Dolby Vision IQ will be supported in all 2021 OLED TVs and also on the JX940 series LED TV. Dolby Vision and the HDR10+ Adaptive format will be supported all the way down to the JX800, in addition to the HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma. In addition to Netflix, there’s Rakuten.tv, YouTube and Brit Box, but no Disney+ as of yet – that's a pretty major miss for anyone with kids, or who loves Star Wars, or who loves Marvel movies… which covers most of us.

Situated close to the HDMIs are two USB 2.0 ports, an audio-out for headphones or a subwoofer, and optical out for connecting something such as a soundbar. You have a choice of ethernet or wi-fi for connecting to the internet. The processing chip in the JX850 doesn’t have the Pro features of the OLEDs and the JX940, so there’s no Dolby Vision IQ, though HDR10+ Adaptive remains, as well as standard Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR10.

my Scenery allows you to choose a selection of restful images and videos, or set your own, to reflect your mood or time of day. Perfect for mindfulness sessions or preparing for bed. In addition to photos from LUMIX CLUB, which highlight the beauty of Japan, we also collaborated with LoungeV Studio to provide you with the most beautiful videos to help you relax after a hard day’s work. However, it also adds support for a number of gamer-centric features such as VRR, low latency, and HDMI 2.1– meaning you’ll be able to make use of a next-gen gaming console, like the PS5 or Xbox Series X, with any display that has an HCX Pro AI processor. Panasonic will also be introducing a brand-new remote control in 2021. Seamlessly fitting into your living room environment, it has been modelled on the rounded shape of decorative bowls. The round edges also make it ergonomic and comfortable to hold.

Now up to its fifth iteration, Panasonic’s My Home Screen smart platform has proved remarkably resilient – especially since we had a feeling it might give way to the Android OS early on. But Panasonic has made small incremental tweaks, retaining its inherent simplicity while improving usability, including some new contextual menus to help search and curate content. However, basic functionality is unchanged. The JX800 is the most budget-friendly TV in Panasonic's 2021 line-up and uses, for the first time, the Android TV operating system, which Panasonic says will include 'a very wide range' of streaming services. Dolby Atmos and Alexa are dropped for this model, but Google Assistant and Chromecast are on board. Unlike static HDR, dynamic HDR technology like Dolby Vision allows the TV to manage high brightness and shadow detail on a scene by scene basis.

The choice of image presets covers Dynamic, Normal, Cinema, True Cinema, Custom and Sport. The Normal mode remains our recommended option for most content, although perhaps surprisingly, Dynamic with controlled oversaturation also proves rather satisfying. In darker environments for movie screenings, the True Cinema mode is the best option, as it’s got more punch than the regular Cinema mode. The whole ensemble resides on a single central pedestal, which is easy to accommodate on regular AV furniture. True to Panasonic’s philosophy of delivering immersive true-to-life experiences, the design of the 2021 line-up is simple and minimal so as to allow viewers to be fully focused on their favourite content. With both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ compatibility, coupled to the brand’s HCX (Home Cinema eXperience) image processor, it’s aimed squarely at switch-on movie fans.

New HCX Pro AI Processor enables auto-optimisation of picture quality based on type of content being viewed

Wi-Fi is given moral support by Ethernet, and there’s Bluetooth too, with headphone pairing for personal listening, handy for a late night gaming session. Panasonic HX800 features — Intuitive, easy to use smart TV platform has all your catch-up covered (just don’t ask for Disney+) For OLED, Panasonic has complemented the flagship JZ2000 with the new JZ1500, JZ1000 and JZ980 series, with the latter three series available in 65-inch, 55-inch and – new for 2021 – 48-inch sizes.

The JZ1500 is an exciting proposition. It features the same Professional Edition panel as the JZ2000 but does without the fancy speaker system, potentially making it the perfect high-end TV for someone who already has (or is intending to buy) a proper home cinema system or quality soundbar. All new models down to the JX850 series feature the latest iteration of Panasonic’s highly regarded smart TV OS, my Home Screen 6.0. The new version delivers considerable usability improvements. My wife and I were looking for a high quality professional display for our living room computer. We do a lot of websurfing, gaming, movie watching, and photo editing since my wife is a photographer. Since we read a lot of text on the screen, 4k resolution is absolutely critical to avoid eye strain and since it’s being used for Photoshop, good image quality and accurate colors are just as important. We bought and returned several other TVs and were getting really frustrated before we got this one. Our biggest complaint with most 4k TVs is they have horrible native contrast ratios. They try to compensate with local dimming, but that just introduces weird artifacts like light blooms that flash on and off during movies and are completely unacceptable when doing photo work. When local dimming is turned off, all of the 4k TVs we tried looked really bad, the LG8500 in particular looked flat out hazy.
