About this deal

Making a drink is as easy as switching it on, inserting a pod, closing the lever to hold it in place, and, if applicable, attaching the milk carafe (which needs to be stored in the fridge), before choosing the right button for your drink. The cup platform isn’t restricted by obstacles, so you can use any size of cup, and the milk carafe spout can also be moved and pointed into the cup, so there’s no chance of missing or dripping down the side. A sturdy drop-down support adapts it easily for espresso cups.

The control pad also provides textual information about the drink being served, as well as reminders for when it's time to clean the milk unit and descale the machine. While there's no significant advantage to the touch control pad, it makes customizing the settings of the machine easier, so you can make your espresso a little stronger or add a little more milk to your cappuccinos. One potential risk: the touch-sensitive panel makes it a little easier to accidentally start the machine going if you touch it inadvertently. The Nespresso capsule systemI take a coffee from this machine everyday to work. I end up having a couple sips and throwing the rest down the drain. Press the Hot Water button only and the descaling process will start. Wait until the water tank is empty. Press the button and the lever down for 3 seconds to exit descaling mode. The light should turn green. Add the solution and water to the tank, following the instructions on your kit. If using the Nespresso solution, fill the tank half way with water.

A foldable, metal cup rest, unique to the Pro among the Lattissima models, lets you accommodate glasses up to 5.5 inches tall or small espresso cups. You’re not going to fit a giant America-style coffee travel mug in there, but that’s really not what Nespresso is intended for. There's also an integrated light that helps you see where your cup is placed under the spout without cranking on your kitchen lights (helps when you want to sneak in that late night or early morning espresso shot). The Latissima Pro, however, produces some finest Nespresso coffee we’ve tasted. In fact, it’s not a million miles away from the quality produced by our Miele built-in Nespresso machine, which is horrendously expensive by comparison. To test the Lattissima One, we made an espresso and a cappuccino and timed how long it took to make, measured the noise level in use, as well as whether the coffees reached optimum temperature. We were keen to see how well the espresso crema held together and, ultimately, if it tasted any good. Refilling the water reservoir is simple. A pop-up lid on the top of the tank lets you refill the tank without removing it from the machine, or pulling the tank off and filling in your sink. The lid is strong enough to serve as a handle to carry the reservoir when full. It’s a similar story with the Lattissima Pro’s milk froth, which is of good, firm consistency at maximum strength – it can be tailored to suit by turning the wheel on top of the carafe – and especially impressive on the latte macchiato setting. The volume is less on a standard cappuccino, so milky drinks fans may find themselves boosting it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boHtcwNTw8k Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Nespresso Lattissima Touch- Descaling (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boHtcwNTw8k) Descaling Delonghi Nespresso Lattissima Touch CitiZ, Pixie or Inissia

At 6.5kg, you probably won’t want to be moving it around frequently, but its small footprint ensures that it takes up minimal space on the worktop. It could be a great swap for an older bean-to-cup machine that hogs all the room. The design caters to a range of milks, and you can insert up to 135ml of dairy (or dairy-free options, such as oat, soy or almond) into the milk dispenser. The idea is that the machine will use up all the milk in one go, so there's no wastage. We referred to the instruction manual to work out how much milk to put in for each drink: 30ml for an espresso macchiato; 60ml for a cappuccino; and 135ml for a latte, for example. We liked being able to top up the milk via the lid, without having to remove the entire Rapid Cappuccino System compartment.

You might think that capsule coffee will taste the same regardless of the machine it’s dropped into, but you’d be very wrong. The same flavour Nespresso capsule will taste very different depending on the temperature of the water, the flow rate and pressure. In fact the Latissima+ that we reviewed recently proved that point by producing quite poorly resolved results, no matter what flavour capsule we used.Press and hold both the Espresso and Lungo buttons for 5 seconds to enter descaling mode. Both buttons will blink.
