About this deal

I thought it didn’t work, I set the time gave it a few shakes and to my amazement it works perfectly! This is especially helpful if you already own watches and watch straps with an 18mm width, so you can swap between them.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that a smaller watch is actually classier and more versatile, as it’s more subtle and discreet. So today I’m doing a Seiko SNXS77 review. This is another watch that’s part of Seiko’s popular Seiko 5 series. They intended on bringing an affordable, well built, automatic watch to the market, and they definetly succeeded. The watch has a lovely and striking sunburst dial which reflects the light beautifully. The beautiful thing about sunburst dials is that they change their personality depending on how the light hits them. This is really the star of the show. There is a wide array of automatic watches with designs inspired by diving watches in the Seiko 5 Sports collection. These include the refs. SRPD51K1, SRPD63K1, and SRPD55K2. The first two models belong to the Seiko 5 Sports family, while the latter is part of the Specialist series. All three watches are similar in terms of technology and design. I’d not quite go as far to say it’s an Oyster Perpetual homage. Just that it takes some really well-designed aspects from the watch.

Specification

In 2020, Seiko incorporated the 5 Sports series into the Seiko 5 collection. The collection thus comprises the Sports, Suits, Street, Specialist, and Sense series in addition to classic Seiko 5 models. While the Sports line mostly offers diving and pilot's watches, you'll find some colorful, stainless steel diving watches in the Suits line as well. The Seiko Sense and Street series are home to playful, multicolored designs. Lastly, the Specialist line features diving watches made of stainless steel, some of which have a bronze or golden exterior. If there is a SNXS77K1 or SNXS77P1 it is made elsewhere in Asia, does not say "Made in Japan" on the dial and is more likely to have Spanish as the second language for the day. The good news is, this raises the entire watch off your wrist a bit and gives you a bit of extra wiggle room when moving your wrist around, adding to the overall comfort.

The ref. SNZG13K1 is paired with a three-piece link stainless steel bracelet. The ref. SNZG15K1 is an identical timepiece, but mounted on a textile strap. Both versions start at around 180 USD.

Popular Watches

The included bracelet isn’t the best, but with a watch so affordable, it’s easy to overlook, and this watch looks good on a variety of different straps if you can work around the odd 19mm lug width. One more thing to touch upon is the automatic movement, now I love watches with this style of movement. They automatically wind themselves using the kinetic movement of your wrist which is an interesting feature. But if the SNXS79 is your only watch, you might as well get the exact size strap to fit it, which is 19mm. It keeps decent time, it can take a beating for years and years without needing a service and is extremely affordable.
