The ideas are percolating,” he answers cryptically. “I’m thinking about what I might like to try next.” Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards – Winner – Best Cover Artist: (for Kingdom Come [DC] and Kurt Busiek\'s Astro City [Jukebox Productions/Homage]) The story as such is a bit thin (thus four instead of five stars), though it does connect a number of older story elements (apparently based on their names...?), which I found ingenious! Some of the dialogue even reads as if Stan Lee had written it. Orry, Tom (March 26, 2012). " Assassin's Creed 3 Collector's Editions revealed". VideoGamer.com. Phegley, Kiel (July 24, 2009). "CCI: Fighting American Comes to Dynamite". Comic Book Resources. Archived from the original on August 28, 2009. Harvey Awards Best Graphic Album of Original Work Batman: War on Crime by Paul Dini and Alex Ross, edited by Charles Kochman and Joey Cavalieri (DC) In 2012 Ross drew promotional artwork of Ratonhnhaké:ton, the main character of the video game Assassin's Creed III, used on the cover of the April 2012 issue of Game Informer and the collectible steelbook case provided with certain editions of the game. [25] [44] [45] that same year, Ross returned to interior painted art with Masks, a story in which the Shadow, the Spider, the Green Hornet, Zorro, and others join forces to combat a mutual threat. [46] Overall, this was a great short read, with the artwork being by far the strongest aspect of the whole comic. In early 2002, Ross designed the promotional poster for the 2002 Academy Awards, [11] which depicted Oscar perched atop the First National Building. The Academy loaned Ross an actual Oscar statuette for a week for him to use as reference for the painting. Ross stated that he photographed members of his family as if they were receiving it. [4] [9] That same year, he was one of four artists who depicted Spider-Man on one of the covers to the April 27, 2002, issue of TV Guide as a promotional tie-in to the feature film Spider-Man. My only gripe was that the pace seemed a little off. There were great action scenes in the beginning and middle and a lot of discovery and talking at the end. The revelations at the end were good, though. An all-new Marvel Comics graphic novel starring the Fantastic Four, written and illustrated by renowned artist Alex Ross

Harvey Awards Best Single Issue or Story Marvels #4, by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross; edited by Marcus McLaurin (Marvel Comics) You have this chance to make a grand new first impression [with the new film],” he says. “We know that contemporary movies are very influenced by the most recent things done in the comics…I wanted to put forth a way of seeing the group that's focused on the four members that if they do an adaptation, that they're kind of getting the core version of it first in their minds.” In the early 2000s, with writer Jim Krueger, Ross plotted and designed characters for a trilogy of Marvel limited series, Earth X, [24] Universe X, and Paradise X, which combined dozens of Marvel characters from various time periods. [25] A super fast paced adventure tour of the negative zone with the Fantastic Four. The story ok but this is a Marvel Arts book, it is all about the artwork, and Alex Ross does not dissapoint. The book is hitting stores as interest in the Marvel title and heroes is crescendoing. Marvel Studios recently set a date for a new Fantastic Four movie and is close to sealing a deal with Matt Shakman to helm it. (Watch for any possible news at September’s D23 convention.) [11] Ross's first published comic book work was the 1990 five-issue miniseries, Terminator: The Burning Earth, written by Ron Fortier and published by NOW Comics. [12] Ross created all of the art, from pencils through coloring for the series. He performed similar work on a variety of titles over the next few years. His first work for Marvel Comics was to have been printed in the science-fiction anthology series Open Space #5 but the title was cancelled with issue #4 (August 1990). Ross's story was printed in 1999 as a special supplement to Wizard's Alex Ross Special. [13] In 1993, he completed his first painted superhero assignment, the cover of a Superman novel, Superman: Doomsday & Beyond. I fully concede that, many moon ago, I was completely taken, smitten, bowled over and blown away by, and enamored with Alex Ross's super-realistic, next generation graphic novel art . Marvels, (which I originally bought in London's Forbidden Planet), Kingdom Come, (literally, sublime stuff) and, in extraordinarily fabulous large format, Peace on Earth, and, well, you get the idea.... The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because of the art. Really that's the whole point of this graphic novel. It's an art book, with a decent enough story. Ross’ comics fandom has been an integral part of his career. His fondness for the heroes of comics’ Silver and Bronze Age informed his work on Marvels, as well as the tabloid-size specials he did for DC Comics with Batman: The Animated Series writer Paul Dini. He points out he is a fan of the Marvel films, but wishes they were more faithful to the source material. In less than a year, fans will get to see Alex Ross' writing in action for the first time since Kingdom Come. Fantastic Four: Full Circle already has beautiful art, and if Ross' previous works indicate how his next story will turn out, fans have every right to be excited. Marvel Comics' new Fantastic Four graphic novel appears to be an instant classic in the works.
