The sound is lovely and tuneful. Good bass and midrange and has a nice treble to the sound without being harsh. A familiar design meets new technology. The latest Bluetooth 4 wireless technology is great for playing from multiple devices. The Bluetooth is a great feature allowing us to use them to play music and videos from our phones as well. To achieve this they often color the sound to place more emphasis on certain frequencies. This makes for a pleasing sound with warm bass and distinct highs. While great for general listening they do not perform well as dedicated studio monitors.

The front face is angled to direct the sound, so you won’t need to use monitor stands. Also, you can remove the cloth panel to expose the drivers. However, keep in mind that the panels help to protect the drivers and diffuse the sound. For a 4″ driver, the R1700BT woofer can provide a respectable bass output for a bookshelf speaker, even if it only goes down to about 60Hz. As for the output level, these speakers can get seriously loud. What’s somewhat surprising considering the price is that they don’t distort even at higher output volumes. The sound quality remains undistorted and smooth, although the balance will shift towards the upper end of the frequency spectrum. For music production and mixing, it is recommended to use lower volumes. The 1850db is quite comparable to the 1700BT in terms of sound quality. In addition, it delivers incredible performance with minimal power wastages. These are a set of speakers that I could and would use on a daily basis. If you’re in the market for something reasonably priced and of real high quality then I’d suggest you grab a pair for yourself.We were not paid for this review. Although the bass is sufficient, there is an option to add a subwoofer. Sound quality It’s such a shame that these are just loan units, as I didn’t want to let them go. They’re really really good and when the sun is shining, the BBQ is on there is little else you’d need, other than a good sound system and the Edifier R1850DB’s hit the nail on the head. Maybe because they didn’t engineer the remote but took an existing design and just printed their own label?
Unboxing
When you look at the price, it really isn’t that much more expensive and I’ve seen it on sale multiple times. Likewise, the highs retain that clarity. Cymbals and hi-hats hit cleanly without any distortion. There is plenty of sparkle on the top end. Potentially a little bit too much.
