About this deal

Karen Maruyama as Barborah Winslow, one of Pauline Phoenix's former hosts and current owner of Phoenix Parks. Readability: ★★☆☆☆, It is very jumpy because of all of the different POVs, timeskips and sudden big character changes that feel unnatural. It doesn’t feel personal, but rushed and unorganized. I could read it fast but felt like I was missing a lot and not understanding the characters’ choices. Several months have passed since the tragic events of DEADENDIA, VOLUME 1: THE WATCHER'S TEST. Norma and Badyah have rebuilt Dead End, bigger and better than ever: by day, it's a haunted house in Phoenix Park; at night, they transform it into a hotel for angels and demons visiting the supposedly "neutral" plane 7. The duo has little trouble booking to capacity, thanks to a little help from ambassador Courtney and the friendly angel Fingers.

Kenny Tran as Logan "Logs" Nguyen, a health and safety officer at the park. He is a gay Vietnamese-American who develops feelings for Barney. [19]As with the first Deadendia, The Broken Halo has a slow, stumbling start that leads to a thrilling conclusion. Norma must come to terms with the fact that she's part-ghost. Barney must find something to do so he's not such a layabout - demon wrestling being the natural option. It takes far too long for these plotlines to collide, particularly when the demon wrestling feels so silly. Johnston, Rich (2 July 2020). "Hamish Steele's Deadendia Comic Jumps to Netflix". Bleeding Cool. Archived from the original on 3 July 2020 . Retrieved 12 December 2020. Martin, Anne (2 July 2020). " 'DeadEndia' animated series coming to Netflix". UPI. Archived from the original on 2 July 2020 . Retrieved 12 December 2020. The series was received positively. David Opie of Digital Spy argued that the series satiates the "endless need for adorable queer animation" and noting other animated series with queer-inclusive stories. [35] Abbey White of The Hollywood Reporter said the series isn't "typical" for animated series, noted the "racially-, gender- and sexuality-diverse cast" and argued the series smashes genres and is "equal parts comedy, horror and coming of age." [36] Ben Mitchell, the editor-in-chief of Skwigly called the series a "horror comedy...for younger audiences" and praised the well-developed characters and "incredible attention to detail" in production design. [37] Reuben Baron of Paste called the series "groundbreaking" and argued that U.S. senators Roger Marshall, Mike Lee, Mike Braun, Steve Daines, and Kevin Cramer demanded new content warnings because the series centers on a trans protagonist. Baron criticized the series for not capturing the "visual charm" of the DeadEndia comic and saying the series "tones down" some themes from the comic while praising the writing and treatment of autism in the series. [38]

Barney's parents want to meet Logs, so Norma decides to plan the perfect dinner party. But it's filled with magical mishaps. Barney's plot in this volume is essentially his plots from both seasons of the show in one: him dealing with his tendency to run away from difficult things and his wrestling arc. I thought the show actually handled this better, as by separating them, it gave more time to Barney's relationship with his family and the impact his trans identity had on that. It also let the wrestling plot in the show be more about Barney being comfortable in his own skin than just a method of him earning money like it is in this book. There are a lot more Logs & Barney moments in this version (as well as a love triangle with Az?!) and it was really sweet to see them spend time together as a couple.Evans, Margaret (21 August 2020). From the creator of Netflix original series Dead End: Paranormal Park comes the graphic novel series that started it all! Thank you TBRbeyondtours for this #gifted copy! I ate up The Watcher's Test and The Broken Halo in a day, which is saying something because I don't read that fast. Based on just that, you should get it. And not even because it's going to be a Netflix animated show. The trans, autism, and diversity rep in this is stunning. It's definitely everything I've ever wanted to read in my life. I'm glad I got to see it before I died.

There are more secrets and mysteries at Phoenix Parks, Will our new friends survive what they are in store for?

Along with his friend Norma and talking dog Pugsley, the gang battle demonic party poopers, creepy therapists and even scarier love lives. So if you've read the original run of DeadEndia, you'll notice that this is all largely the same story wise but there are a lot of improvements to the artwork. And also... the setting has changed! Goodbye Winslow's Wonderland - hello Pollywood! When writing Book 3, I definitely found writing the character voices a lot easier. I could hear the actors in my head whenever I was writing. But genuinely, Book 3 is the ending I always imagined when I started the series all those years ago. D'Alessandro, Anthony (14 July 2020).
