Hip Belt: As the hip belt sits higher on women we have altered the cut in two ways. First, the overall height of the hip belt needs to be reduced to prevent it from digging under the rib cage (or diaphragm). Secondly, we have developed a customised fit on the bottom of the hip fin to sit more comfortably on the hips. As the fabric in question is Gore-Tex Pro we can only provide data using RET as this is the standard test Gore-Tex use for their fabrics (Gore may be able to supply more data).

Benefit: Protects from rain, wind and snow and can provide additional warmth especially when combined with the other layers. Benefit: Reduces clamminess and chilling effect associated with active exertion, to maintain user comfort.

To help clarify what this means, here’s a few pointers of things that wouldn’t be covered:To answer the question regarding the acronym RET and the unit of measure….RET is the resistance to evaporative heat loss meaning the lower the number the more breathable a fabric is. PLEASE NOTE - The bag shown in the photos is a representative one in the range of three we supply and so what you receive will not match exactly what is shown. We have a 60-day return policy, which means you have 60 days after receiving your item to request a return. Berghaus recommend that you machine wash your item at 30 degrees Celsius and use soap powder or liquid with no fabric softeners or conditioners. For stubborn grease and dirt use non biological detergent with no softeners or conditioners. The garment should be air dried or if the care label allows tumble dried at a low heat setting. Shoulder Harness: The shoulder harness needs to be contoured away from the bust to give women the freedom of movement and prevent uncomfortable pressure. Women normally have narrower shoulders than men, thus we have slightly narrower strap to maximise comfort.

Please Note: Some bags may have had the bottom, internal drawstring separator membrane removed by the previous owners and will show evidence of this. However to speak in general terms you would normally expect most fabrics with a RET of 6 m²Pa/W to have an Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate of well over 20,000 g/m²/24hours when tested using the most commonly known MVTR test method (Inverted cup B1 method).This simple and light approach makes the sized systems ideal for more rugged environments and longer duration trips where resupply is difficult and where you are likely to be carrying heavy loads perhaps in excess of 20kg.

These come in four different sizes according to user height. They are rough guidance only, as people have different body proportions and personal preferences. There are many different tests for breathability of a fabric. Adhesive/glue/bonding. Adhesives will naturally dry and break down over time because of age, particularly with heavy use and poor after care. This issue on items over 10 years old would not be considered.
