About this deal

You may be wondering if you can mount a TV on plasterboard – and the answer is yes, you can mount your television onto a plasterboard wall, but, it’ll need to be done correctly to prevent damage to your home and TV. Gripit Fixings – Again, these have a used for dry-lined walls owing the shallow dept of the plug, which allows it to be inserted and fit in between the plasterboard and the solid wall behind. This would not be possible with conventional wall anchors which usually will not fit in the space. There are few ways that this task can be carried out. If you can find the studs behind the plasterboard. If you can, normal screws will be fine. I recommend getting some long ones as the screws will need to go through the plaster, plasterboard and then into the stud. To find the stud, you may need a stud finder but some of these can really be hit and miss. The good news is once you have found one, the next stud should be 16" or 24" along, this is actually marked on most tape measures with a small arrow. If you can’t find the stud, do not despair as most TV's are so light these-days that is doesn't matter. There are a couple of other fixings I recommend: I always get asked, what height for my TV? The answer is quite simple, wherever you want it. But the “recommended” height is, when you’re sitting down in your viewing position that your eye level is between half way and one third of the TV height. I must say, personally I prefer this a little bit higher. Apart from the height, you will want to consider where about(right to left) that you want the TV on the wall. Usually you will want this centre of the wall, but you may want to centre it to your sofa or bed instead.

Drill the fixing holes. I recommend wrapping apiece of insulating tape or something similar around your drill bit so that you drill to the correct depth. Go ever so slightly deeper to be on the safe side. Televisions are by no means cheap, so it’s always a good idea to put careful consideration into mounting your TV correctly and safely. If you don’t feel confident doing this yourself, always speak to a professional rather than doing a poor quality job. After all, the safety of your pets and family is at risk if your TV falls down. Plasterboard walls are constructed from a series of wood uprights with plasterboard sheets in-between. The wood studs will be strong enough to support the weight of your TV, but the sheets of plasterboard will not without special fixings.

Sports, documentaries, reality shows, and movies are among the most loved programmes on TV today. No matter how you plan to use your television, you’ll need to decide where and how to position it. Using a TV stand is by far the simplest option but depending on the size of your TV, these pieces of furniture can intrude into an already crowded living room.

When the TV is fairly high on the wall you may need to adjust the swivels at the side to get the TV to face angle down a little. Gripit Fixings – These were on the Dragons Den TV programme in the UK and was one of the biggest success stories from the programme. I use these for very large and heavy TV’s as they are a very strong and durable fixing. I recommend getting the blue ones which require a 25mm pilot hole to be drilled. The plug part is then inserted and with a screwdriver two rings can then be rotated which sit behind the plasterboard – the bolt can then be inserted and tightened which forces the wings to squeeze the wall behind the plasterboard. Wall plugs are needed whenever you want to mount items like shelving onto walls, a fastener like a screw alone will not be able to secure hold the item in place which could result it the item detaching from the wall, stripping the hole and the plasterboard with it. A wall plug fits into the pilot hole drilled into the wall and expands when the screw is inserted into it flaring out and gripping securely without damaging your walls. Universal - these ore the most common type of wall plug and are typically made of nylon and/or plastic. Once inserted into the wall they expand with the insertion of the screw to securely anchor themselves in the wall. How are the cables going to be managed? Are you going to feed them behind the plasterboard, bury them in the wall, install a surface mounted trunking or just leave them loose?

What is a Mantel Bracket?

Larger televisions are usually also heavier so will put more pressure on your wall. As such there’s a few important considerations you’ll need to bear in mind. It all comes down to the size and type of mount you use. The larger your TV, the bigger and more secure the mount will need to be. How much weight can I hang on a plaster wall? Mounting TV's above fireplaces does look nice and seems a natural position, but often this is too high. You may want to consider finding an alternate position. Thankfully, our free search feature makes finding a fully qualified professional easy. Just input your postcode and we’ll find trusted trades for you, saving you time and energy. Remember, hiring an expert means great results that’ll last for years to come. How much does professional TV mounting cost? The dictionary definition of a mantel is any stone shelf, but it has primarily come to mean a shelf over a fire of a description and is usually referred to as a mantelpiece or mantlepiece. Both spellings can be used.
