About this deal

It is The End. After more than 20 years of gripping novels the final moments of the Horus Heresy are in sight. Hundreds of characters have fought tooth and nail to reach this epic conclusion, and many millions more lie dead in their wake as worlds burn across the galaxy.

Horus kills the Emperor permanently, realises his mistake, frees himself from Chaos’ influence, purges the immaterium, retains the power of Chaos, effectively becoming an Emperor-equivalent being. The loyal primarchs expel him from the empire, but Horus aids humanity from the shadows. Warhammer Community: The (Beginning of the) End Is Nigh – The Final Siege of Terra Story Is Revealed (posted 31 August 2022) (last accessed 4 October 2023)For the best viewing experience, we recommend using old reddit version - https://old.reddit.com/r/40kLore/ Always start with a compliment; Jonathan Keeble is excellent, and I enjoy his performance every time. His characters and tone are consistent and recognisable, and the quality of his recording is clear and precise. Good job! This was just for Malcador's scenes and makes sense as that is the way he would think, with his vast knowledge and being so erudite. It wasn't like this throughout the rest of the book.

Terra is besieged. The outcome of the war lies on a knife edge. The Warmaster Horus’ bloody seven-year crusade has led to this – the cradle of humanity, where he is to kill his father, the Emperor. I wonder if this well tone down the purple prose. Given that he describes it as a continuation I doubt it. The use of lexiphane words spoiled my immersion. Its hard to keep in the flow of the thing if you are reading a description and have to look up what smaragdine means ( or lexiphane ). So all we had to do was make it all work, make it coherent, make it fit together, fill in those gaps, and do justice to the well-known sections. You can’t let readers down by changing things, or by not giving them what they quite rightly expect to see. But readers also want to be surprised and to learn things they didn’t know. That’s a lot of hours spent planning, debating, arguing, inventing… I suppose what I’m saying is that we all knew it was a major project that would take years to complete, and we were all determined to stay the course and get it done. On the other hand, it seems genuinely unreal to finally be reaching the end. Was book 1 too long? I don’t think so, I think Abnett pulled it off. Yes, it’s the extended director’s cut, but it’s a good director’s cut, not dross, not a slog, not some other things that could be levelled at the Horus Heresy series. Three stars because it isn't bad enough to warrant being given two stars in that it's a mostly an enjoyable read however it has problems. The Emperor remains a perpetual with strong but not god-like psychic abilities (similar to the regent). He loses the power He stole from Chaos. With all that said, the book deserves better than the three-star retirement home of mediocrity. Right here is the transformation of the 30k Imperium into the 40k Imperium, more than any other point in the Heresy series. The institutions that will define the setting we’ve known for decades are being made in the pressure cooker of the endless final day of the siege. The inquisition, ecclesiarchy, the malign fuel for golden throne and the birth of the cult of sacrifice are all in here in fascinating hints and suggestions. Which is just how Warhammer lore should be. There is a particularly noteworthy scene from Malcador’s point of view where he sits upon the Throne and we see the truly awful and eternal fate that awaits the man in gold. The sheer density of prose in this book makes it boring and awkward to read. Lots and nothing happens because of it. It could comfortably be half as long and still make perfect sense. Another bloated entry in the Siege of Terra series, featuring ADHD storytelling, glacial pacing and a meandering plot.
