About this deal

The Emperor’s Champion is super dope with enough open space where you can really let your painting skill show through.

EL: Company Veterans: Space Marine Veteran w/Lightning Claw, Storm Shield, Veteran Sergeant w/Lightning Claw, Storm Shield Sword of Judgment. Replaces a power sword. A S+1, AP-3, 3 damage weapon that’s a solid upgrade over a standard power sword and can help a character get there. B Primaris Master of the Forge, March of the Ancients, Heir of Sigismund – Epitome of Piety – 100, 1CP And yet, I do wonder if all the overcharged, self-indulgent gothic silliness that captivated me as an 11-year-old, and fills me with joy now, will appeal to new players, in an age where the rest of the Primaris range isfull of extra webbing pouches, satellite dishes, stealth systems, and all things ‘tacticool’. I do hope so – but, then again, each to their own. The good thing about GW being a vast, global games company now is that it can make more than one or two things at a time, and serve a wider variety of different tastes. More than ever, there is something for everyone – although I do wish it would talk straight to us fans a bit more.Loadout-wise, it looks like the new Crusader Squad can mix up wargear more freely than other Primaris units. Photos show Initiates with Pyreblasters; Bolt Rifles, Auto Bolt Rifles, and Heavy Bolt Pistol / Astartes Chainsword combos, while the Neophytes are seen to carry either Bolt Carbines or Bolt Pistol / Chainsword combos. This is the Crusader sprue and you get two identical of these. As you can see there are plenty of bits so these are not the ETB style. IF you can see inside the chest there, you can see the numbering on the bits themselves. The Crusaders look so cool and the Neophytes are actually on 28mm bases, so basically the same size as a Primaris, but they are much more static than the regular Marines in the box. The Marshal is also super detailed with so much going on, but again, not so much you can’t show off your skills. Final Thoughts All three squads are kitted out with as many pyreflamers as possible, as well as (heavy) bolt pistols and Astartes chainswords for close-range dominance. 40 angry Space Marines running at you at full speed, supported by a Marshal with the Crusader’s Helm (to ensure they’re all in range of his Rites of Battle aura ability), and a Primaris Ancient to keep them fighting to the last, is certainly an intimidating prospect.

So far, those revealed include the Holy Orb (a one-time mortal wound-dealing perfume hand grenade which, like its predecessor in the 4th Edition codex, is a direct reference to the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail) and the Icon of Heinmann, which cancels out most weapons’ AP to make one of your Sergeants or Sword Brethren a chunk more survivable. Instruction-wise, it’s pretty much what you’d expect with the new color variations that we really like and there are multiple options for each unit.

Black Templars models

The datasheets included in the codex has equipment options for the Marshal (Primaris Captain) and Castellan (Primaris Lieutenant), along with the named characters High Mashal Helbrecht and Chaplain Grimaldus. It details the rules for the Emperor's Champion and Primaris Crusader Squad, which are included in this set, and also a firstborn marine Crusader Squad and the powerful Primaris Sword Brethern unit.

In the name of the immortal Emperor, I hereby vow to bring glory to His name, and slay the enemy's leaders, without hesitation, at the very heart of the enemy's domains. Relic Bearers: The Templars points-based upgrade option is a massive winner, hitting the sweet spot of being interesting, broadly useful and powerful.Yeah so first up I’m going to echo what Liam said – this book absolutely rules and is everything a Marine Supplement should be. Templars players have had to be patient, but the wait was worth it – this supplement joins Sisters, Thousand Sons and Death Guard as a fantastic example of 9th Edition design trends done right. There’s power, cool unique stuff that no one else gets, and a bunch of things that are clearly powerful but with enough constraints on them that you have to think about how to build them into lists. I do suspect that lists using Uphold the Honour of the Emperor are going to stand out, but there are other things you can do here, and real tradeoffs between the various decisions you have to make. Just three Secondary Objectives here, all with suitably death metal names – exemplified by the first, Bathe Your Blade in the Blood of Your Foe. Sitting in Purge the Enemy, this works identically to the Blood Angels’ Blade of Sanguinius, letting you set up the kind of Warlord fight which is normally a bad idea in the competitive arena but can be a good idea if you think your guy is going to win and score 15pts for doing so. The Crusader’s Helm is a super versatile relic; not only does it allow something to be in Assault Doctrine any turn you need but it also adds range to auras which is SUPER useful on things like apothecaries (a “must take” unit for every Marine faction). We’ve no word on pricing or a release date, although– sinceGW commented in its revealarticle that the Templars’ army set would be “a perfect force for Helbrecht to lead”– we can be fairly sure he won’t be too far behind the army set. Now, if only we could see his rules…

Like the Beast Snagga Orks and Sisters of Battle army sets before it, it’s a limited edition ‘core’ set to herald the arrival of a completely new(or, as in this case, completely redesigned) Warhammer 40k army, seemingly squarely aimed at long-time enthusiasts who’ve been sitting on unloved old collections for years, waiting on a refresh. People, in short, just like me. Then we get a zoom in on the left half of the Crusader Squad sprue showcasing arms, legs, weapons, and some other bits like heads, torsos, and, shoulder pads. There’s definitely plenty of variation in this kit! which is key when you don’t get a suite of loadout options like in full unit releases. Uphold the Honour of the Emperor: The splashiest of the Templar Vows, providing one of the most exciting army-wide abilities in the whole edition. Warlord traits have generally stayed pretty similar or seen mild improvements from the Index versions, and are largely fine (if maybe not as exciting as some of the awesome stuff here). This final mystery– of when the full range will actually hit shelves – willlikely persist for some while yet, but we’ll keep this guide updated as soon as we glean any further truths through the fog of war.Marshal - The Marshal uses the profile for the Primaris Captain but has different wargear options, either auto-flamer or plasma pistol and a master-crafted power sword or master-crafted power axe.
