About this deal

While designing a new work table I decided it would be convenient to combine a router table extension that could fold out of the way when not in use. If I make one I'll want it to attach to the MFT and I think I've found a way to do that but it involves some fiddling. Before installing the legs, I cut 2 holes in the lower part of each leg so that the table when set up could be easily clamped to the work bench. The router table is 1 1/4" thick with a top layer of formica and pivots on two arms held in place by 1/4" cabinet bolts which screw into threaded inserts in the main table top.

The plate is square on one end and circular on the other and the circular side has only one adjustment screw to keep the plate flush to the tabletop. The table you describe, custard, is very similar to what I've done with the bandsaw table I think, MDF framed with hardwood. The fence is made from a rigid steel back plate and uses a pair of aluminium alloy 'T' tracks incorporating metric scales meaning that it can be precisely located on the table surface.Deluxe Bench Top Router Table Large mounting plate 307mm X 229mm fits most 1/4" and 1/2" routers Sturdy construction Large and easily removable mounting plate Dust extraction port with an additional adaptor 2x Large Feather boards Please note this is for a table only, no router is included. The International System of Units (SI), more commonly referred to as the metric system, is the alternative set of units that we have available for some of our plans.

When you need a router table you cantilever it off the edge of your bench with a couple of F Cramps and you're in business. The first thing I did was measure the thickness of the plastic material I was going to use for the base and make sure that the depth of cut was slightly deeper that the plastic because the leveling screws would be needed to make sure the base was set properly. The last element to Rockler’s design is an insert plate that can stay on your router, which gives you a larger baseplate when routing by hand.

The back of the cabinet has pegboard storage for my table saw miter gauge, the router table fence, various push blocks, and other stuff that never had a real home and were constantly moved from place to place. This new table gives me a strong, stable work surface that can be extended to 54" as well making table mounted routing much more convenient.

The hole I chose to cut was 5 inches square so I had to make a cutting jig of suitable size to make that hole for the new plastic base to be fitted into. I think you will find that you will utilize it just as much as added table top space for assembling as for routing. Trim or Laminate Routers have been around for many, many years but there are very few manufacturers because they just aren't as popular as they could be, simply because they are small, low powered and limited to 1/4 inch bits only.
