About this deal

Warhammer Underworlds will be plunging into the Nethermaze this weekend – a murky, tangled labyrinth where malevolent shadow magic seeps down to pool in its maddening nadir. The box contains two new warbands, the Gnarlspirit Pack and the Sons of Velmorn, who face off across two new double-sided game boards. Livia Solken finds out as she takes command of the Sword of Baal for the first time in this prequel to Angels of Death. Rumours abound of powerful relics to be found in the ever-shifting labyrinth known as the Nethermaze, located in the deepest layers of Harrowdeep. All that set-up with the various hexes and by the end of the game neither of us had used any of them for anything.

Morathi brooks no rivals, even in exile, and has dispatched the Shadeborn to eliminate Queen Kia’tan and her seditionists.Khagra’s Ravagers are named after Khagra the Usurper, who – through duplicitous means – wrested control of the warband from her sister Zarshia.

If you like what we’re doing here you could really help encourage more content with a share on any social media platform. The little tokens with the Underworlds logo on them are activation tokens, and the final pile in the bottom-right corner are Raise tokens. We have two new warbands, a rulebook, 11 dice, 114 tokens, two new double-sided boards, of course, plenty of cards. It contains the novels Dark Imperium , Dark Imperium: Plague War , and Dark Imperium: Godblight , and the short stories In the Grim Darkness , The Armour of Fate , and His Will . But I have to say, following a read through of the rulebook and a look over the various cards and other bits and pieces in the box, there’s nothing in here that should turn newcomers off.

You get four full Rivals decks – one for each warband, and two universal decks that can be combined with any Warhammer Underworlds warband. However, whilst our first Round took ages as we were constantly referring to the rulebook and trying to figure out what things meant, the rest of the game actually passed very quickly once we got into the swing of things. Expand your Warhammer Underworlds experience with the Rivals of Harrowdeep, collecting the Xandire’s Truthseekers and Da Kunnin’ Krew warbands from Warhammer Underworlds: Harrowdeep. The Shadeborn are masters of the umbral arts, a nimble group of skilled assassins who use their mobility to bushwhack anyone, anytime, anywhere.Luckily, Nethermaze comes with two pre-made Rivals decks for playing with the Skaven and Aelves in this set, so for their first few games players don’t need to worry about mixing and matching their cards. The function of each card is clear, comes with great artwork, and all the info is clearly displayed and easy to read. New Domain and Map cards give you tools to control the very battlefield itself, and Rivals decks for each warband will let you get right into the action. Nethermaze is another faithful – albeit perhaps a little predictable – entry into the annals of Warhammer Underworlds history.

In fact, after a largely unsuccessful second activation from the Aelves, Snyp was able to knock Slythael Shadestalker’s final pair of wounds off her, rendering her out of action and inspiring the entire Skaven team. Cruel Maul (Death)– a two-dice, two-damage attack upgrade that lets you roll two extra dice if the target is wounded. Beneath the rulebook and the assembly guide, safely sealed away in their own plastic shrink-wrap, are the two folding game boards that come with the set. Because Underworlds is a much smaller, much more streamlined game, there aren’t anywhere near as many rules.Whilst this was actually kinda fun and encouraged us to be engaging with each other’s warbands, it did feel a little bit like we weren’t actually playing the game. The other Shroudblades are armed with a mixture of blades and a crossbow pistol, which should make for plenty of gameplay options. The other Objective card she held could only be scored in the third end phase is two or more of her fighters were in cover or edge hexes outside of her territory. My Objectives required one or both of my two weakest fighters – Krowch’t and/or Skulk – to have made two successful melee attacks, which they hadn’t done, or to have killed some of Lizzie’s fighters, which I also hadn’t managed to do. Originally available in the Warhammer Underworlds: Harrowdeep Core Set, this kit contains the miniatures and fighter cards for both warbands, as well as a complete Rivals deck of 32 cards for each.
