About this deal

The village isn’t quite as picturesque as Bacharach, but it’s got an unbeatable view across the river to Burg Katz, one of the most beautiful castles on the Rhine. The River Tweed is also well-known for its salmon. It’s the only English river where you can fish with a rod without needing to first acquire a licence from the Environment Agency.

Try to see– If you have time, it’s worth seeking out some of the viewpoints around Bingen. The Kaiser-Friedrich-Turm, south of Burg Klopp, is the highest. And the Prinzenkopf and Elisenhohe viewpoints are just to the west of the town. It’s a pretty small town in the shadow of Rheinfels Castle, by far the largest of the castles along the river Rhine. It’s also one of the livelier Rhine towns of an evening, with a few busy pubs, bars and restaurants filling the streets with outside tables in the summer months. Fuling's position at the crossroads came into remarkably sharp focus when Peter Hessler arrived as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1996, marking the first time in more than half a century that the city had an American resident. He found himself teaching English and American literature at the local college, discovering how Shakespeare and other classics look when seen through the eyes of students who have been raised in the Sichuan countryside and educated in Communist Party doctrine. His students, though, are the ones who taught him about the ways of Fuling — and about the complex process of understanding that takes place when one is immersed in a radically different society.Admire the superb medieval architecture throughout the town. There are some extraordinary half-timbered buildings, including the Klunkhardshof and Brömserhof. Fürstenberg Castle is around a mile south of Bacharach, above the village of Niederheimbach. 4. The town features several historic monuments including the 12th century priory and the church of St Peter. Although it was renovated in the 18th century, today it is in a prolonged state of disrepair. The building is no longer used and is unfortunately inaccessible to the public. The 15th century church of Saint-Saturin, however, is the current parish church. Its interior was completely restored in 2008-2009 and the entrance presents an interesting Gothic portal. The beautiful tall bell tower contains three bells, one of which weighs two tonnes! The church organ was made in 1863 by Cavaillé-Coll, a well-known family of organ makers. At the National Watersports Centre near Nottingham, you can try rowing, sailing, whitewater canoeing. If that sounds a bit too full on, the Trent is also very popular with anglers. 5.
