About this deal

In vitro studies have shown that allicin extract is capable of inducing cell death and inhibiting cancerous cell proliferation. It’s been found to fight against the invasion and metastasis of human colon carcinoma cells. It’s believed that the way garlic is prepared, and how allicin and other compounds are extracted, may explain this. S-allylcysteine on the other hand is bioavailable and has the ability to lower cholesterol, since it acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. It’s still not entirely clear how the absorption and metabolism of allicin and allicin-derived compounds works, but studies show that garlic supplements can be beneficial for a variety of purposes, likely because of the interaction of different phytonutrients found in garlic. Plate diffusion test. Antibacterial activity against E. coli DH5α demonstrated on seeded agar plates by different antibiotics is indicated by clear zones where growth inhibition has occurred. Freshly grown E. coli cells (OD 600 = 0.2, 300 µL) were embedded in 20 mL warm agar in a Petri dish (diameter 9 cm). Afterwards, holes (diameter 0.6 cm) were punched out and filled with 40 µL of antibiotic solution at the mM concentrations indicated. Pictures were taken after 24 h of incubation in the presence of the antibiotics. ( A) kanamycin; ( B) allicin; and ( C) ampicillin.

NCCIH. https://www.nccih.nih.gov/health/providers/digest/use-of-natural-products-by-children-science In the manufacturing process, a special flood reaction system using only water is able to produce large quantities of stabilised allicin. The liquid is then carefully dried, under controlled conditions, to maintain its potency. This sophisticated process has for the first time allowed us to capture garlic's active component in a form that can be used by the body. Percival SS. Aged garlic extract modifies human immunity. J Nutr. 2016;146(2):433S-436S. doi:10.3945/jn.115.210427What are the side effects of allicin? Garlic supplements are generally safe and well-tolerated, but some side effects are still possible. How is allicin extracted from garlic? Purified allicin is actually not sold commercially because it is not very stable. Allicin showed promising activity both in vitro and in vivo against many plant-pathogenic fungal species, including pests, which are of economic importance. For example, Botrytis cinerea, Plectospherella cucumerina, Alternaria brassicicola and Magnaporthe grisea were strongly inhibited in vitro by allicin in fresh garlic juice in a plate-diffusion assay using spore-seeded agar [ 39]. In further studies, seed-disinfection turned out to be an efficient and potential application of allicin. It was shown that carrot seeds, infected with Alternaria spp., were disinfected by treatment with garlic juice in a degree comparable to a commercial seed-disinfection product [ 1]. In another assay, germination and seedling-development of pathogen-infested wheat seeds were enhanced by treatment with garlic juice [ 56]. Thus, allicin seems to have a potential in seed-disinfection programmes both in ecological agriculture and under low-tech conditions (like in developing countries). Since allicin is easy to obtain from freshly damaged garlic tissue, applications in that direction would allow a plant-protection strategy according to the maxim “ grow your own pesticide”. There are a lot of reasons not to take antibiotics, like antibiotic resistance or their high cost. But, for me, the biggest risk of antibiotics is that they disrupt your gut flora.

Are there any other allicin foods aside from garlic? Yes, it’s also found in onions, shallots and other species in the family Alliaceae, to a lesser extent. However, garlic is the single best source. Pharmacol Res. 2021;105837. doi:10.1016/j.phrs.2021.105837 According to the Linus Pauling Institute, the half-life of allicin in crushed garlic is only 2.5 days. So, it is no wonder that studies have shown that garlic supplements contain no allicin. 9 There are numerous compounds in garlic which are responsible for these health benefits, but researchers have pinpointed one in particular for its outstanding health benefits: allicin. Unfortunately though, getting the health benefits of allicin isn’t as easy as popping a garlic supplement.

This strong aroma keeps pests away, and also has antibacterial and antifungal properties to protect the plant from infection. Experts consider the minimum effective dose for raw garlic to be a single clove, eaten with meals two or three times a day.

Garlic supplements do not contain any allicin at all. They rely on your body being able to generate small quantities of allicin once you have swallowed the tablet or capsule. Garlic oil supplements are produced by distilling fresh garlic. The oil that is produced is then diluted and placed into a capsule. This process destroys most, if not all of the available allicin. A few garlic powder supplements can generate some allicin during the digestive process. This depends, however, on the prevailing stomach conditions and may take several hours. AllicinMAX® doesn’t need to be converted since it actually contains stabilised allicin. When AllicinMAX® is taken, the allicin is not destroyed but is easily absorbed into the blood stream. The allicin in AllicinMAX® likes the acid environment of your stomach, unlike other supplements that can be inactivated by acidic conditions. In the same way that allicin can protect garlic from threats, it can also protect us. Numerous studies have been performed on allicin, particularly for treating bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. Allicin Max formed on the 11th August 1999, on the day of the solar eclipse, here in Great Britain. However founding member and managing director, Norman Bennett, had long been devoting his time and research into the powerful properties of garlic since the late 1980's. As a frequent user of garlic supplements, Norman was fully aware of garlic's active components and their beneficial effects on health and wellness but a publication by Paul Simons, entitled 'Garlic: The Powerful Panacea', helped him to establish one of the active principles, which is still used today. From this ‘lightbulb’ moment, Allicin Max was born, and so was the world's first fully stabilised, allicin food supplement. What is Allicin and how is it made? Here’s where things get a little confusing. Garlic supplements do contain allinase and alliin (the precursors to allicin). If the garlic supplement is enterically coated, it can get to the small intestine (which has a more-neutral pH) without being damaged. The alliin can then be converted into allicin for the body to use. 10 Alare K, Alare T. Open Acc J of Toxicol Review of Toxicity of Allicin From Garlic. Allicin breaks down to form a variety of organosulfur compounds, which are associated with protective effects. According to Oregon State University, “Although powdered garlic supplements do not actually contain allicin, the manufacturer may provide a value for the ‘allicin potential’ or ‘allicin yield’ of a supplement on the label.” Various studies of allicin’s effect on baker’s yeast show that it acts synergistically with other, known fungitoxic substances like copper [ 59, 60, 61, 62]. Furthermore, synergistic toxicity of allicin with amphotericin B suggest an impact of allicin possibly on fungal plasma membrane [ 63, 64, 65]. I’m not going to leave you hanging! Yes, there actually is an allicin supplement that I can feel confident recommending. It is called Allimed in the United States and it is the one I used for treating SIBO. Ried K.
