About this deal

Not a safe scent, beware. I have already met many perfumistas who said it's "ugh", not to mention regular people who keep saying "what is THIS smell?" with horror in their eyes, hehe. I have been here to write the review of Imitation woman quite a few times before. It's like a deja-vu moment for me. I could never write it. By the time i can put pen to paper (fingers to keys on the keyboard) I forget all about the notes and whatnot that constitute this fruity bamboozlement that is Imitation W O M A N! and yes, I'm a man. and it's also true that I got this for my girlfriend who (thankfully) rejected it but it was always love-at-first-sniff for me (I'll tell you all about it soon) and I only decided to let it go because it would have stayed in the fam (wink wink)

After some more wearings I have grown to love this scent. Imitation Man needs many wearings in different environments to truly appreciate it. There is a freshness about it that is amazing. I wore this to skateboard at a skate park with my son. While I was there I kept getting whiffs of an amazing smell. My parents showed up to watch my son. I thought what I was smelling was my fathers's cologne. I was about to ask him what he was wearing, then I remembered he only wears Aqua Di Gio Profumo. That's when I realized it was me who smelled so good. Imitation Man works great with some body heat. I retract my previous statement about this not being versatile. This again has an airy freshness about it and I find it be very versatile now. The dry down is the best part. Just be careful with the sprays if used in doors. With that being said my wife still doesn't care for it, but I love it and will be re-purchasing a full bottle. This is an artistic nostalgic scent that every collector should have. This is unisex leaning a bit more masculine IMO.The age range is over 25 since it leans toward a slightly more mature audience due to its complexity. Late 20s and older to be safe. You must have an affinity for somewhat old-school, floral, leather, and powdery fragrances to fully appreciate them, or it may turn out to be a deal-breaker for you. Referencing an 80s pop song to describe a 70s-inspired perfume, but if you try it, I think you will see what I mean. I tend to prefer the development after that, where our smooth retro lad gets a bit more tousled and ruffled: the base notes start coming through. There is a slightly rougher leather note in the mix, along with patchouli, and I can definitely detect castoreum if I sniff closely (but we're not talking Epic Man levels of castoreum here). Amouage Imitation Man is a part of the Eaux de Parfum collection which includes classics such as Jubilation XXV, Journey, Interlude, and more. At this point in time, there are no flankers to Imitation released or announced.

What are your thoughts about Amouge Imitation Man? Let’s start a conversation and let me know in the comment section below. Blue, green, yellow, pink, red, orange, and various iterations of these colors converge, rendering it one of the most exceptional fragrance bottles ever crafted and a prized collector’s item. The weird and wonderful castoreum (also used to fake vanillin, the genuine vanilla flavour, in cheap and cheerful ice creams) makes it all the more seedy and musky, if not a tad dirrty (like Christina used to sing).

The opening did slightly remind me of something I have smelled before but it the composition managed to arouse a sudden curiosity in me. In the opening, I get the orris and something velvety with faint hints of petroleum and soft cured leather. The rose here is sheer (imagine a light sweet rose flavoured lollipop, the round but thin ones that look a bit glassy). I get lots of orris masquerading as leather, like it so often does. Because to give men orris without listing leather in the note pyramid might scare them. But when did real leather ever smell of powdery orris? Surely this is one of the most frustrating reconstructions of leather. It’s a fantasy accord I have never understood. In contrast, Tuscan Leather smells literally like treated new car leather and Hermes Bel Ami is virtually a new horse saddle. So why must perfumers continue with fantasy leather accords when the real thing can be easily imitated?

Initially unsure if I would like it, this scent grew on me, and for that reason, along with everything else discussed here, I highly recommend sampling it as soon as you can. After the initial application, it projects much stronger than expected, and people around you will notice its presence as the sillage bubble starts to “mingle” around the room. Bottle and box...among the most powerful of Amouage... They accurately portray this perfume, a 3-4 decade old leather chypre walking down a street lit by neon signs. If I had to describe it in one word, I would say "VIVID". Since we already know that Imitation is not a mass-appealing fragrance that’s guaranteed to receive compliments, it can garner positive reactions but not expect much.Often overlooked and seldom discussed, I invite you to join me in exploring one of the finest masterpieces and hidden gems from this luxury house.
