About this deal

Six children are in hospital in Oxford after a BMW collided with the people carrier in which they were travelling. Four of the men are in a stable and non-life threatening condition, while one man is in a serious but not life-threatening condition. We are enormously grateful to the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service for their time, the University’s Risk and Resilience Team for their guidance and the operational team at Univ for how determined they were to engage fully with this exercise not just to ensure that everything went smoothly on the night, but to ensure that if we ever had to do this for real, we would do the very best we could for our College. The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which it says “is the procedure in these circumstances”.

DI Justin Thomas, of the force’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “We would like to appeal to anybody who may have witnessed this incident or was in the area at the time of the collision. My thoughts are with the families of the missing people who have been waiting all night for news who I know will be desperately worried.Dust from the collapse covered a considerable area and we can confirm that there were no hazardous materials within the building; residents are advised to remain inside keeping doors and windows closed.
