[77] Unique to computer animation, Lasseter referred to this process as "digital archaeology". [77] The process took four months, as well as an additional six months for the two films to add the 3-D. The lead stereographer Bob Whitehill oversaw this process and sought to achieve an effect that affected the emotional storytelling of the film:

When Toy Story 2 starts, a few years have passed since the events of the first film. Woody and Buzz are now mature characters living peacefully with other toys. Although Andy is still a kid, he is growing up fast, and a new threat shows up to unsettle Woody’s world: the fear of being left behind. The final push came from Buzz, his long–time friend. “She’ll be okay without you,” he tells Woody. “Bonnie will be okay without you.” The implication there, of course, is that Woody will be okay without her, too. Another animation feat from Pixar, then, is that you can visibly feel Woody exhale—all the pressures lifted—and let go. We all remember Toy Story’s plot. Woody, Andy’s favourite toy, thinks he has everything under control until a “stranger comes to town:” Buzz Lightyear. The Space Ranger invades and challenges his world, forcing him to learn about teamwork and collaboration. Both sides were willing. Catmull and fellow Pixar co-founder Alvy Ray Smith had long wanted to produce a computer-animated feature, but only by the early 1990s were the computers cheap and powerful enough to make this possible. [11] [12] In addition, Disney had licensed Pixar's Computer Animation Production System (CAPS), and that made it the largest customer for Pixar's computers. [13] Jobs made it apparent to Katzenberg that although Disney was happy with Pixar, it was not the other way around: "We want to do a film with you," said Jobs. "That would make us happy." [13]

Babyface appears in the video game adaption of Toy Story, appearing in the level "Battle of the Mutant Toys" (credited as "Baby Face"). While Woody and Buzz explore Sid's room, they are startled by the appearance of Babyface and the other mutant toys. Woody uses Buzz's karate chop action to ward off the oncoming toys and escape Sid's room. In the Game Boy version of the game, Babyface is omitted, and a spider is put in his place. Join Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the gang on their latest adventures in Toy Story 4, where brand new toys like Forky, Gabby Gabby and Duke Caboom come to life. When Woody brings up Daisy and throws the pendant to him, he says, "Mama" which shows that he still loves his old owner after realizing that she still loves him. After Lotso crushes the pendant that Daisy gave him and angrily jabs him in his stomach, Big Baby finally loses his loyalty to Lotso and retaliates by throwing Lotso into the dumpster, finally having had enough of his lies and abuse as he had been deceived by him into doing villainous things. During the credits, he is seen living a happier life at Sunnyside under the care of Barbie and Ken. He is silent; he only communicates with baby sounds (except for one line "Mama" near the film's climax).

Yes, we worry about what the final box office is going to be. But really, the whole point of why we do what we do is to entertain our audiences. The greatest joy I get as a filmmaker is to slip into an audience for one of our movies anonymously and watch people watch our film. Because people are 100 percent honest when they're watching a movie. And to see the joy on people's faces, to see people really get into our films... to me is the greatest reward I could get. Eventually, Woody finds the courage to move forward and leave Andy behind, starting a new life with his friends in Bonnie’s house. The cowboy has finally grown up too; mbut we know his shared memories with Andy will never leave him, possibly shaping the kind of man (or toy) he is going to be in Toy Story 4. A new adventure? This will only happen at the very end of the film, when Andy is about to pass all of his old toys over to little Bonnie: though Woody still has the chance to stay with Andy forever, the cowboy chooses to join his friends in the new house, making a strong active choice. Andy has no choice but to let him go; and, with him, all his childhood. So long, partner Fireworks: Celebrate the Magic • Celebrate!
