About this deal

In terms of warmth, the R&G heated grips had the fifth hottest heat output, measuring 44.7C on our thermometer after four minutes. Compare this with the 49.8C of the Oxford Adventure grips and it’s pretty impressive when you consider the price of these and the fact that if you shop around you can get them far cheaper.

The throttle side will be a bigger internal diameter than the clutch side to compensate for the throttletube. The grips are not supplied with a specific model application list but are designed for 22mm handlebars and have lengths of123mm/114mm.

I couldn't get the left grip to sit where I ideally wanted (with the LED light directly facing me) because the heating wire fouled my bike’s cruise control buttons (see photograph in gallery above). The ends can be trimmed, if you look on the fitting instructions under D - fitting procedure, it shows the trimlengths.

There are easy-to-install ring connectors to attach the grips to your bike’s battery terminal and the wires are coated in durable plastic which will help prevent damage from extended use. The labelling on the connectors is confusing. There are three connectors coming from the battery loom, and you attach both grips and the controller to these. All connectors are the same size and colour which means in theory you can plug any end to any other end. There are three heat settings indicated by the LED light on the grip - red (high, 45°C), white (medium, 40°C) and blue (low, 30°C). I suffer from Raynaud's condition, which means my hands and feet get cold and become numb very easily. Because of this I have these grips switched on virtually all the time, even in summer.

The new Oxford HotGrips Pro are very well designed, pretty easy to fit and offer great heat for winter rides or any time you want some warmth in your hands. - BikeSocialThe nicest grips on the test... HotGrips® Pro proved fast and accurate between settings with great comfort and grip." RiDE Recommended - Heated Grips Product Test With bars that size you would need to use the Oxford Hot Hands - even the Cruiser grips only fit bars of 1 inchdiameter. The old HotGrips Advanced were controlled purely by the user, so the ability to constantly fine tune them was more valuable. However, the new HotGrips Pro have a thermistor built in, which constantly measures the temperature of the grips to keep them stable. This is really valuable as it means they stay around the same temperature – within their operating range – when riding at 70mph as they do when you’re stopped in traffic. Not only is this more comfortable, but it also avoids the distraction of fiddling to keep them just so.

As with my previous pairs of Oxford heated grips I had no real issues when installing them to my KTM 1290 Super Adventure beyond finding somewhere to feed the cables to make everything look neat. The supplied instructions were sufficient given the simple wiring loom for the grips. Heat is regulated using a switching mode controller, which basically means that it very rapidly turns the power on and off at different frequencies to control the heat output; the lower the frequency the less the heat.Winter is a fantastic time to ride, and those seasonal riders who do not ride all year round are really missing out. With a few warm layers and some heated grips, a cold-weather ride can be just as comfortable as a mid-summer blast. The Sports or the Touring grips will be fine - if you measure the length of your standard grips, and choose whichever grips would require the least trimming. The maximum uncut length and the maximum cut length are shown for eachproduct.
