About this deal

Put simply; it is a mythical creature that changes shape in the scriptures, but never characteristics. It is an evil monster that must be defeated to depict the triumph of good over evil, victory of God over Satan. A symbol originating from The Eternal Champion, later adopted by occultists and role-playing games. Contemporary religious Satanism is predominantly an American phenomenon; the ideas spreading elsewhere is an effect of globalization and the Internet. [4] The internet has allowed for intra-group communication and is also the main forum for Satanist disputes. [4] Satanism started to reach Central and Eastern Europe in the 1990s—in time with the fall of the Communist Bloc—and most noticeably in Poland and Lithuania, predominantly Roman Catholic countries. [5] [6] Definition Saint Wolfgang and the Devil, by Michael Pacher An upside-down crucifix is also a symbol embraced by Satanists. That confuses some people as it is seen as the Petrine Cross or "The Cross of St. Peter" since, according to Origin of Alexandria, Simon Peter was crucified upside down. However, turning a symbol like a cross upside-down is symbolic on it's own and the interpretation of doing so differs among Catholics and Satanists.

It is unclear where and when the infinity symbol came to play a part in paganism. There is some literature that suggests that the ancient Egyptians used a similar symbol to refer to the forces of chaos from whence the universe was born.

It has a long history of use in Europe, particularly in France, and it gets its name from the French province of Lorraine. It was also used, prior to being adopted in France as a symbol of Christianity in the Kingdom of Hungary. Its use as the symbol for sulfur, which they would have associated with the awe-inspiring and terrifying cataclysms of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions alluded to their belief of an all-powerful God under whose eye they lived. Sulfur is associated with fire or brimstone, which represents the deaths, torments, and sufferings of Hell. Ultimately, the Leviathan cross symbolizes Hell and its sufferings and Satan itself. Borrowing imagery from the book of Isaiah, the Leviathan cross is here depicted with a serpent. Different Symbolism Associated With The Leviathan Cross In 1994, the Italian sociologist Massimo Introvigne suggested defining Satanism with the simultaneous presence of "1) the worship of the character identified with the name of Satan or Lucifer in the Bible, 2) by organized groups with at least a minimal organization and hierarchy, 3) through ritual or liturgical practices [...] it does not matter how each Satanist group perceives Satan, as personal or impersonal, real or symbolical". [11] Etymology The Leviathan crosshas a double cross at the top and an infinity symbol at the bottom. The infinity symbol signifies the eternal universe and the universe’s infinite nature. An image of the Leviathan cross.

The Satanic ritual abuse hysteria died down between 1990 and 1994. [91] In the late 1980s, the Satanic Scare had lost its impetus following increasing skepticism about such allegations, [102] and a number of those who had been convicted of perpetrating Satanic ritual abuse saw their convictions overturned. [103] In 1990, an agent of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, Ken Lanning, revealed that he had investigated 300 allegations of Satanic ritual abuse and found no evidence for Satanism or ritualistic activity in any of them. [103] In the UK, the Department of Health commissioned the anthropologist Jean La Fontaine to examine the allegations of SRA. [104] She noted that while approximately half did reveal evidence of genuine sexual abuse of children, none revealed any evidence that Satanist groups had been involved or that any murders had taken place. [105] She noted three examples in which lone individuals engaged in child molestation had created a ritual performance to facilitate their sexual acts, with the intent of frightening their victims and justifying their actions, but that none of these child molesters were involved in wider Satanist groups. [106] By the 21st century, hysteria about Satanism has waned in most Western countries, although allegations of Satanic ritual abuse continued to surface in parts of continental Europe and Latin America. [107] Atheistic SatanismA symbol used with many different meanings, including but not limited to, gold, citrinitas, sulfur, the divine spark of man, nobility and incorruptibility. Apart from these, the symbol of Leviathan is also present in the First Book of Enoch and the Book of Amos. The imagery of the sea serpent varies slightly in all these books. However, all denote more or less the same meaning. Research conducted in 2011 showed that inhaling sulfur dioxide can also contribute to increased occurrences of preterm births. The Satanic Temple does not believe in a supernatural Satan, as they believe that this encourages superstition that would keep them from being "malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world". The Temple uses the literary Satan as metaphor to construct a cultural narrative which promotes pragmatic skepticism, rational reciprocity, personal autonomy, and curiosity. [153] Satan is thus used as a symbol representing "the eternal rebel" against arbitrary authority and social norms. [154] [155] A number of religious studies scholars have described LaVey's Satanism as a form of "self-religion" or "self-spirituality", [125] with religious studies scholar Amina Olander Lap arguing that it should be seen as being both part of the "prosperity wing" of the self-spirituality New Age movement and a form of the Human Potential Movement. [126] The anthropologist Jean La Fontaine described it as having "both elitist and anarchist elements", also citing one occult bookshop owner who referred to the Church's approach as "anarchistic hedonism". [127] In The Invention of Satanism, Dyrendal and Petersen theorized that LaVey viewed his religion as "an antinomian self-religion for productive misfits, with a cynically carnivalesque take on life, and no supernaturalism". [128] The sociologist of religion James R. Lewis even described LaVeyan Satanism as "a blend of Epicureanism and Ayn Rand's philosophy, flavored with a pinch of ritual magic." [129] The historian of religion Mattias Gardell described LaVey's as "a rational ideology of egoistic hedonism and self-preservation", [130] while Nevill Drury characterized LaVeyan Satanism as "a religion of self-indulgence". [131] It has also been described as an "institutionalism of Machiavellian self-interest". [132]

The Leviathan is an ancient symbol of unity. It symbolizes the perfect state where people live in perfect unity. A Challenge To God Alchemical drawings often portray Sulfur as the sun. (In some views, sulfur and salt are the parents of Mercury) The symbol of sulfur is often used as an identifying symbol by Satanists, due to sulfur’s historical association with the devil.Another reason why a person would choose to have a Leviathan cross tattoo might be because they are interested in practicing alchemy and magic. In that sense, it would make a nice ink for people of Wiccan and neo-pagan faith especially. Peter requested to be crucified upside down, as he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ. Official emblem of the Church of Satan, consisting of the head of a goat transfixed upon a reversed pentagram flanked by the Hebrew letters of the word " Leviathan" (לִוְיָתָן). The right image is the same sigil in cuneiform from the Joy of Satan Ministries, a recreation of the sigil of Baphomet incorporated with cuneiform lettering instead of Hebrew to spell out "Satan", and made after Maxine Dietrich's reinterpretation of the ideology of spiritual Satanism. Revelation 21:8 – “……and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone…”
