About this deal

You could flatten your Shrinky Dinks more by pressing them flat with folded paper. However, this step may not be necessary.

The shrink paper is so cool – just as a remember when I was a kid. My girls have had so much fun making keyrings and charms! When setting up your shrinkies to glue you want to turn them over and put out the findings before you mix the glue. It is a fast job :) I’m doing a C initial keychain and I’ve done it 3 times but I can never get it to not curl up in a weird way or lay completely flat ): do you have any idea on how I could fix it? I’ve tried leaving it in longer for about 5-7 minutes to see if it would uncurl further but it doesn’t seem to work. This step is optional. Resin is handy with inkjet film if you are creating something wearable as the film is still susceptible to moisture. The resin makes the pieces last. You should make this instructable more about jewelry made with this technique and add an intro image that shows your jewelry ready, this way it will attract more people :) I do not remember these but love the idea will have to try it with my 3 year old I think she would love making them Reply

There was a previous comment that said to lay parchment paper on the bottom AND top of your item and it would come out flat. That would be worth a try. If that didn’t work you might try a slightly lower temperature to give it more time to flatten out or for you to poke it down (a bamboo skewer works great). We’ve filmed a video guide for our shrinky dinks tutorial. here you can see both the beginner and the advanced projects being made. If you prefer written steps with photos, we have these for you in this guide too. Just scroll down to the How to make shrinky dinks: Beginner heading for the step by step written guide. Where to buy shrinky dinks The take around 2-3 minutes to shrink and can flip over in the process. They curl up during shrinking, so don't be worried if they do this they should soon go flat in the oven. Use paper punches if you want holes in the plastic. You might want holes if you are making jewelry or just for decoration. Punch any holes before you bake the Shrinky Dinks. For a more eco-friendly version of the craft, repurpose leftover plastic food containers (look for the recycle triangle #6). Cookie and takeaway salad containers are normally the right plastics to use. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places.

We're big fans of wine charms in this house. It stops people from accidentally drinking your wine instead of theirs. I remember my grandmother melting white Styrofoam cups in the oven enough to make them look like hats. I think she did something for Mother’s Day with them!

In 2008, University of California, Irvine Professor Michelle Khine applied Shrinky Dinks to create tiny structures for the application of microfluidics to topics such as stem cell research. [7] In 2022, Michelle Khine researched the use of Shrinky Dinks for microscale diagnostics and wearable biosensors for monitoring health. [8] It is really important to cut around the designs, don't try to cut them out on the lines you have drawn or printed. I made a huge booboo with my first bunch (about a year ago) trying to cut on the lines. You cut about 3-5mm away from your outside line. Take a look at my photos for details. Need to be careful what shape is used as longer thinner shapes tend to curl up on themselves. But otherwise, great product! Hello we tried several ways, shapes and and sizes but found that it curled too much, even pulling them out earlier and trying to straighten didn’t work. Any suggestions as to what we may be doing wrong please.Make a personal jewellery pendant by creating a shrink of your country or state. If you want a more colourful version just add the appropriate flag. Start by choosing the template of the design you want to create. Line artwork works best, and we have found that embroidery templates or colouring sheets are a great place to find the shapes that work well as outlines. We are using the template created by Anne Oliver for her free heart embroidery design that we have for you on Gathered. Start by securing your template on a solid surface – we are using the ceramic tile we use with our heat gun – and attaching the shrink plastic sheet on top of it. Thank you for the heads up about sanding shiney surfaces before colouring! I’m new to this. A few questions. Oven door open or closed? Bake paint side up? Will #1 plastic work? Thanks for your time.
